Rusting Rail

technique.

i feel like this a repost but i couldnt find the original. sorry

whats the best thing to coat my rail with so it doesn't rust? its steel

paint it, leave the grinding part intouched, it shouldn't rust as long as you're sliding it...

i did this to one of mine that was sitting in a field for like 4 years

i took a right angle grinder with a sanding disk so a sander would work as well

sanded the top of the whole thing till the rust was gone

i then took a candle and melted it onto the rail and like used a credit card to smooth the wax out and make it even

and i haven't had a problem since

exactly like cwood said. try sliding it or painting it. mine is also steel and mine rusts over the summer. use a sander or a grinder with a sanding wheel and the rust will be gone.
