RUSH-greatest band ever

wow the amount of closemindedness in this thread sickens me.

I really enjoy listening to rush, as a matter of fact i edited my 2005 skateboard part to rush. which was once the top rated video on ns. :D total claimer.
 
I don't think you can equate taste in music to close-mindedness. This is merely an opinionated thread. Anytime you have something that is "______ greatest _____ ever" there will be a clashing of the minds especially when it's impossible to determine.

What's close-minded is saying any band is the greatest band ever.
 
I would say that's pretty accurate....I would make room for Pink Floyd by taking out KISS or Nirvana though. And while Van Halen is obviously is guitar god, I wouldn't call him alone+his group one of the greatest of all time when you are comparing entire bands.
 
just got back from seeing them live, and they were AMAZING. they're still so tight and energetic, and geddy's voice has not lost any of its power. the whole night his voice was full and in tune, it hasn't changed at all.
 
I also just got back, it was amazing.

Peart's drum solo was amazing as expected and Geddy Lee jumped around the stage so much it's hard to believe he's in his 50s.

Three and a half of the best hours of my life.
 
i love how pert showed his versatility in his solo. he did rock, some kind of reggaeish island stuff, techno, and jazz! the ending with the swing band was awesome! do you think they played too much new stuff? i didn't recognize a lot of the stuff they played, and i wanted to to hear plenty more than what they did play. i also feel like i need to get their new album now, because i did like it, it's just that i didn't know it.
 
I don't think they did too much new stuff. It was a given that most songs from "Snakes and Arrows" were covered since it was the Snakes and Arrows tour (although I was disappointed they didn't play "Bravest Face", among my favorites from the new album.)

I just wish they could have played a bit more 70s Rush than just "Passage to Bangkok" and "Circumstances."

"Bastille Day", "2112", "Working Man, "Closer to the Heart", "Kid Gloves", "New World Man", or anything from "Fly by Night" would have made an amazing playlist even better.

However, they did at least cover the essentials like "Spirit of the Radio", "Tom Sawyer", "Limelight", "YYZ", and "Freewill."

They seemed to favor early 80s songs but they did a great job with each of them. (btw to threadstarter, "Natural Science" was sick!)
 
i was looking forward to all of those. yet your're right that they did seem to cover the essentials, and it was still an overall amazing show.
 
I dont like rush, but I respect their talent. I'm not gonna say they suck cuz they don't, but I don't like them whatsoever you know?
 
Many of my friends were initially put off by Geddy Lee's unusually high voice, but over time most of them learned to tolerate and eventually love it.

Once you learn to love the singing, you can really begin to appreciate the amazing music they make.
 
^it's true, it took me a long time to appreciate geddy's voice. i always loved the music, but geddy's voice was just different. i love it now, i can't understand why i didn't used to.
 
goin to see them on september 12th at the John Labbatt Centre.

judging by that set list you provided, should be a fucking awesome show.

btw, snakes and arrows kicks ass!
 
Isn't it wierd that Rush has yet to make the "Top 5 Greatest Bands Ever" thread?

With all the fans in this thread you'd think they would show their support.
