Round Rail Tips

My home mountain just made a new rail similar to this

and plan on trying it tomorrow. I've got plenty of experience with double barrel and flat rails but have never done a round rail like this or others. Its set up regular, but ive got plenty of experience with urban. Any tips?

you'll be fine, i probably almost prefer round rails like that. maybe a bit slippier but much easier to recover on

When I first tried these I couldn't stay of the rail. Someone I met at a rail jam suggested that I get all the way on the rail. That fixed my problem. So just remember make sure you fully get on top of the rail.

yea... get the full 90 degrees onto the rail and ud be all good... its a fun rail type. probably my favorite

I found round rail a little harder, you have to focus harder on keeping your skis together, or else your legs could slip apart and you land right on your gnards. be sure to flex your leg muscles

commitment is all you need, i love these rails cuz you feel like you just lock onto it, and spinning off of them is sooooo easy

The one time I tried a round rail it pulled my skis apart right away and i hit my crotch and it hurt.

These for some reason seem easier, but i think it's a mental thing, because the contact surface with the rail should be no bigger than a doublebarrel, and certainly less than a flatbar. Like everyone said, they're like normal rails. But if you've got plenty of experience hitting urban why do you need advice for something like this?

I hate them. everyone loves them but i just don't. They are just as easy to lock onto for hitting it normal, I just hate doing any tricks on them.

that being said a single barrel rail but like small sized is pretty much the best rail for anything.

First rails I ever learned to slide, they don't have the same "I'ma nutt you" factor as narrow rails do. Width of a box, contact surface of a rail, and the fun of both combined.

True that its harder to nut like the guy above me said... i hit a 16 ft up round rail just like the one in the pic last year, and after probably 10 times hitting it i "nutted" myself, but didn't hit anywhere near my nuts, it was my mid thigh.. for people saying less surface area i feel like it's not exactly true, it all depends on how wide it is, and how rounded it is.

actually no.

go do some geometry :). the surface area of contact between your skis and this barrel does not depend on the size of the barrel.

actually the surface area is 0 (it s a line, in theory) )

pop with your skis off to your fs side parallel to the bar dont come in at an angle, pop, look at the end of the rail and your set

Correct, you could have a circular rail 10 feet wide, and you'd only be touching it on one spot. With that said, the wider circular rails are, the easier i find it to balance, and it becomes less painful to crash.

took me a morning to get last year, since then ive loved them, i learned my first sw ups and 270 on one like that tips: stay on top of the rail if your a little off so your toes or heels are a little off the rail enless you lean alot you will slide off, once you get it they are def the most trickable rails in my experience

thats actually the complete opposite for me...
i love a good foot wide pipe, but i find it way easier to lock on to a 3 inch single barrel.

just go for it, if you have problems then ask for tips you will probly be fine its not that much different than a double barrel

You know what kind of joke is the best? The kind that nobody but you understands. That way you can feel awesome and smarter than everyone else at the same time.
