Moody's: Quiksilver rating on review for downgrade

Tuesday June 17, 5:20 pm ET

Moody's says it could downgrade Quiksilver ratings if it does not successfully sell Rossignol

NEW YORK

(AP) -- Credit-ratings agency

Moody's Investors Service on Tuesday put Quiksilver Inc.'s ratings on

review for a possible downgrade as it tries to sell its ski equipment

unit Rossignol.

Quiksilver plans to sell Rossignol, a French company

it bought in 2005. Since then, consumers have begun to cut back on

big-ticket items such as skis and sports equipment amid a difficult

environment.

The outdoor clothing maker has classified Rossignol as discontinued operations.

The

review will consider the uncertainty associated with the company's

ability to successfully conclude a sale of Rossignol, Moody's said.

A

successful sale would have an immediately positive impact on results,

Moody's said in a statement, but the amount, timing and terms of any

sale remains uncertain.

"Failure to sell the business in the

near-term term would likely mean that Quiksilver will not be able to

achieve the credit metrics necessary to maintain its current rating,"

Moody's said.

Quiksilver shares rose 11 cents to $9.39.

WHOA
I was just reading a thread on TGR about this like 2 minutes ago and then I come here and see this. It's like deja vu that actually happened. And to the dude above, a bunch of sskick skiers like Sage Cattabriga, Ian Macintosh, Dan Treadway, and Kye Peterson.

Sage Catabriga-Alosa, Kye Peterson, Andreas Hatveit, Xavier Bertoni, Kevin Rolland, Ian McIntosh, JF Houle

and Austin Ross, if you've heard of him.

i'm pretty sure that is just rossignols little outerwear burst...some riders rocked it, but i knew it became discontinued....the ski company still lives

Ah shit man some good riders there. Will they get booted if Rossi is sold?

Wouldn't they just continue on with new management cos they're all dope riders.

There was a bit of lead up to it though, Rossi wasn't sponsoring end of the season because the company had gone into turmoil with the take over shit and noone knowing what was happening.

Quik has been trying to sell the hemorrhaging rossi for a while now. Rossi is a shitty segment of their business. I read this earlier today and do believe it is true. RIP Rossi, RIP Dynastar.

ah yep.. More reports are popping up everywhere. While a new owner may open it back up, it really sounds done for now. There have been lots of interested parties, but non of the deals have gone through. I think they just put a really tight tourniquet on the hemorrhage.

Park City, UT - Board sports company Quiksilver, Inc. will sell

its Rossignol brand
of ski hardgoods and softgoods, the company

announced in its second quarter financial statement last week. The sale

will include the Rossignol, Dynastar, Lange, Look and Kerma brands
of

ski equipment
and apparel, all of which are operated under the

Quiksilver's Rossignol Group business unit.

Quiksilver has now classified its Rossignol Group wintersports

equipment
and apparel business as discontinued operations pending the

sale and took a non-cash pre-tax charge in the second quarter of $240.2

million. The revision to the recorded value of the Rossignol Group was

triggered by the sale process.

even though i never liked Rossignols skis, i wouldl never buy any binding other then Look or Rossi until now.

the way i read this is that rossi is discontinued as far as Quik is concerned, not that Rossi is ended... ski companies get bought and sold all the time -- they'll just have a different parent company, i'd say...

so this could go one of a few ways.....

1)another ski company buys it up and either...

1a)lets the company contiue to run as it was

1b)integrates product into their line

2)wealthy person(s) buy it and it lives on

3)the unthinkable happens and it dies.....

if option 3 happens it will either...

a)give other companies more market share, profits rise, and industry flourishes

or

b)all are affected and industry slumps

i just hope that it lives on as is, Rossi has major history is skiing. candide, tomba, bode for a time, my first pair of skis were rossi, one of the original companies.

yeah no joke i havent ridden anything except for dynastar since i started freestyling and i didnt intend to im just gonna have to buy this years models and ride them to the death

do you actually think rossignol will be without an owner for long?

sure their marketing and business strategy will change but i guarantee you that someone will be picking up the company soon. they've made huge progress on the world cup racing stage in the past couple years.

It's shitty that Quicksilver is running Rossignol into the ground. Rossi was.. and still is one of my favorite companies and while they have excellent products their image is being tarnished. If K2 buys Rossignol they'll have practically a complete monopoly of the ski market with Elan (and Atomic?) the only major company I can think of that's a competetor in the rental skis and gaper market. They'll still have competition in the twintip market though, with all of these core companies.

I heard that it is not selling since Quicksilver is basicaly trying to screw anyone who buys it over. They are just selling the rights and not the facilities, along with (I believe) a contract that would force the buyer to continue to use the current facilities and pay Quicksilver out of the ass for it.

I thought they were well off and this year, twin tip had the most sales(read something about that in another thread).

rossi dynastar have tonnes of riders on their teams, and so many people are brand loyal to look and lange.

i wonder how this is going to turn out.

i dont think you realy got it.

his contract just ended. He choosed another company.

He didn't "leave".
