Rossi Racestock Widebrakes?

A liberal myth or have you guys seen any? I need a widebrake for an FKS, I dont think the brakes will work if I bend the stock brakes out over a 103mm waist.

you have to bend them yourself. if you look at the heelpiece for the bindings, you will notice that the brake doesn't detatch without taking out springs and such. and they dont make a wide one. so you have to bend it yourself.

Word is that this year the P18 will be available with a wide brake......

but for the time being you need to bend them. That means taking the binding apart and bend the brakes, then putting it back together. It takes maybe an hour or so if you have the right tools and figure it out. It can be a pain in the ass. You get them them really wide too. I know people who have them on spats.

This is a great tutorial on doing it.

hey

this should give you any idea of how much room you brakes will have.

These are my P18 on my Seth Vicious, so 98 in the waist. The fit over easily and have lots more brake to spare. 103 waist wont be a problem.

sweet tutorial. now does anyone know where you can get any spare parts for these bindings? i need one spring, and 2 of the metal semi-circle pieces. i have some old fks's and they have the plastic semicircles, which crack from use, and also crack when you insert the screws too far into them (which is worthless because you want your binding screws to be tight in the ski) seems like all the looks come with a metal part while the rossis come with a plastic part even though its the same piece

hey

actually the platic pieces on those P18 is cracked as well, both of them. I don't think it will make a differene as it is held tightly in between two piece of metal screwed together. I'm not worried.

To find a screw look on ebay for a old pair of Look race stocks. You can find old old ones for like $20 and they are pretty much the same binding. You can use all those parts. Im sure there are some places that even carry springs.

There was a guy on TGR named mntlion selling race stocks for like $50. they are in good shape too.

sorry, read that really quick and got parts confused.

The plastic piece between my metal mountin plate and the metal circle is broken, but it doesn't matter.

Like I said, those semicircles can be had by finding old cheap race stocks.

it sounds like you are talking about the plastic piece on the bottom of the binding. im taking about the piece that comes in dirrect contact with your boot heel when you click in. when its cracked/or when the screws are screwed through it, cracking the holes the screw goes into, you can tell its messed up because your boot will have a noticeable amount of side to side play. you can feel it just by putting your ski on edge while standing still.

yeah, after I posted I reread and realized I had confused the pieces.

Best bet is to find old cheap ones and scrap them for parts. the broke plastic piece sounds crappy. good luck finding one.

ya maybe ill call up look or check out the shops when the open to see if i can get some parts without buyin new bindings. i might be able to find some at the thrift store too. they always have ghetto old skis with old looks for 10$

Thanks izzy, I plan on doing this with a FKS155 hopefully they arn't mechanically different, I assume just a different strength spring. I was thinking maybe blow torching it and just bending it while it was intact.

the spring should be the same. only thing it does is keeps the brakes in the snow when there is no boot in the binding

I know some people who have dont it with a blow torch. It has worked of. I think you get a cleaner bend from a clamp.

I'll add a few notes to this I guess.

First, be careful. It is easy to brake the plastic or bend the metal bottom plate out too far.

Keep one binding together and take the other apart and put it back together. it held.

Make sure you have a good clamp and measure it accurately. my clamp sucks and my bending isn't great. But it works.

Then enjoy the dope bindings out there (except maybe the s916)

If you go to the TGR forum and do a search someone has a indepth tutorial with pictures on how to go about bending the P18 / FKS.

ahh the 916 iggy. i own a pair, all u gotta do is take off the brake arms and replace them w/ other salomon widebrakes. the 916 brakes arent the same as other salomons so u have to just take the brake arms. its super easy.

Rossi needs to step it up and offer a widebrake for them, it's pretty simple. I cant believe some companies still arn't offering them when so many skis are fat these days

i got em ttoo i just mangled em up watch out dont bend them too much with out a clamp the brakes can come out of that sleeve thing and be difficult to put back in

with all this talk about breaks, i cant tell when to use brake or break when talking about breakaes. teki do ur bindings have breaks or brakes? wut about ur car? my bike doesnt have any breaks/brakes. breks, braks, brakes, brackes, braces, breaks, or breakes.

i hope u read all that kenny G. cuz in the end, it still all means the same shit.

Yeah, I have the P18 on my seth vicious and a s916 on my FFF.

So the FFF waist are 118. I also had s914 on spats. Both had brakes fit fine.

What you can also do to get them to fit is get the normal wide brake for the s914. To make it fit the s916 you just have to remove a little bit of plastic. One these two pieces of plastic are removed the s914 wide brakes fit perfect on the s916.

as long as it sounds the same when read. if i was writing a paper it be different. english skills dont count outside of school.

so anyone try that tutorial other then iggy? cuz i reallllllllllllllllly wanna do it but im realllllllllllllllllllly afraid its gonna fuck my brakes up. i already have 1 pair of racestocks w/ fucked up brakes i dont need 2.

if you read that thread like 20 other guys on TGR have done it.

Unless you really suck at putting shit together it is hard to fuck up

The TGR tutorial is maaad helpful. I just took the whole binding apart and completely removed the brakes, then put them in a vice and bent that shit with a ski pole. No torch no heat, just bent them, and they work great. It's pretty hard to mess up since i did it without any problems.
