Found this online searchbarred but then again I just woke up.

Thursday, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and others introduced the first ever bill in Congress to end federal marijuana prohibition. It is not a bill to legalize per se, but to end the federal ban on marijuana and let the states decide whether to legalize or not.

“The legislation would limit the federal government’s role in marijuana enforcement to cross-border or inter-state smuggling, allowing people to legally grow, use or sell marijuana in states where it is legal,” according to the Marijuana Policy Project.

More than 12 states allow sales of medical marijuana, but it isn’t legal under federal law, leading to messy confusion between local and federal authorities. In March, the DEA raided two medical marijuana dispensaries in California and 26 in Montana.

Paul explains that this really isn’t a radical move. Additionally, the bill was apparently prompted by comments from the Global Commission on Drug Policy, that the war on drugs was a failure and people caught with marijuana shouldn’t be punished for a crime that does no harm to others.

Listen to Paul tackling more questions with CNBC’s Larry Kudlow below. He views drug problems from a medical viewpoint, that punishing with prison time does not help an addict or prevent people from obtaining drugs

Discusss??

who the fuck cares what ron paul wants... do you think this clown will do anything about it? you kids are so absentminded about what makes a practical political figure that it's ridiculous.

OMG NADAR LIVEEEES!!!

shut the fuck up.

obviously the chances of this particular bill going through are slim, but it's meant to prove a point. this will at least bring attention to the debate and create a legitimate issue for politicians.

Yeah but all these commercials used as scare tactics are really gonna hinder this bill. Ooo marijuana funds terrorists or ooo marijuana will make you kill people.

The way i see it one of two things is gonna happen if you smoke pot: Either your gonna sit around eating junk food and watching bad television or your gonna make Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club.

legalize..... i personally think our system is fucked up when it comes to this "drug" i was arrested the other day for smoking a dutch, car toed and now going through court. cops shoud be out worrying about real criminals. why treat the casual smoker like a felon?? and look at cigarettes, why is it legal to smoke a cig and not a j? the government shouldn't be able to decide what we can or cant do as long as its not hurting anybody else. Free country?

i bet he's only doing it because by saying he would do that it would put a huge portion of the youth vote towards the republican party hoping they would legalize marijuana

Its about time someone says that alcohol is more harmful than marijuana... I have never heard of a case where someone overdosed on pot but know plenty of people who have given themselves alcohol poisoning. And the whole point of driving impaired, more people die from drunk driving than driving stoned.

I actually like drinking more than smoking but I think the problem is a lot of people do not know how to control/handle themselves after a few drinks.

Sorry, my reply was pretty worthless I'll expand here. Not that what I say or what any of you say matters. Ron Paul is a libertarian and America isn't ready for anything more than slight change in general policies (disregard gay marriage, decriminalization, etc.) As far as I know Ron Paul has publicly stated his support for decriminalization/legalization. Until he becomes more of a mainstream politician he won't get the support he needs...which is unfortunate because I share many of the same values.

Oh, and yeah blah blah blah short term effects of weed not as bad as alcohol, blah blah blah. There are so few studies on long term effects on marijuana I wouldn't get all uppity about it.
