Ron Paul 2012

holy shit this guy is amazing!! Im going to sound dumb but I didnt know it was already time for an american election. is this the case?

I wish our politics in canada were as interesting as in the states. Paul is amazing, has great values and sounds like he could actualy bring change. I honestly didnt think anyone would come along and beat obama in my eyes but his way of thinking and general intelegence in the way he answers is amazing. And you can see hes sincere when he answers too. Now america just has to get over the fact that obama is black.

yeah he wont win. I'm just saying. everyone who thinks he will is deluding themselves

I am a big Democrat, and I hope that Obama gets a second term; but if the Republicans take this election, I hope that Ron Paul is their man. I really like the ideology behind liberalism, and what he is saying matches up to it pretty well.

If he didn't sound like a rambling old man half the time i think he'd be much more electable.

Also, these debates suck. They're not debates, its just a series of pre-made answers for boring, easy questions. The candidates should be debating eachother on the issues... a 30 second timeslot to answer a question on economic policy is retarded.

>america sucks

you know what, most of these responses are so ungreatfull. you live in a country were people are actualy interested with politics. the voting turnouts are phenomenal. in canada only about 20% of eligeable people use their right to vote. Why? because our politics are fucking boring. any politics have a degree of boring but in the states you have good campaigns and good leaders. you guys have historical leaders that have presence and good policies: obama, JFK, clinton, reagan... and now ( I find) Paul. we have motherfucking deadbeat harper who we re elected because no one is aware politics exist in canada. so yes I wish our politics were as interesting as in your country.

Hmmm, I love his ideas but i think there still needs to be government intervention in some aspects of life, mainly on wall street. A large part of the reason our economy is fucked is the fact that banks were not being watched close enough. But , He does not have the information that a president has and it is quite obvious the president makes decision on information the public doesn't have.... It killed it when i heard he was the godfather of the tea party. BUt i love allot of his ideas, well see when it gets closer. I love election season!

yes, but americans are awful at making good choices. they vote for who they want to have a beer with, not who makes a great president. sure more than 20% votes, but they have no idea who or what they are voting for.

its like that anywhere, there are morons in canada too. Why the fuck would we re elect harper after all the bullshit he did? during his whole time as prime, we complained about everything and hated him. now election time: ooooh hes promising new stuff maybee he will do them this time. Idiots are everywhere but what I like about american campaigns is that they are interesting. They have great leaders who are good public figures, not stuck up little bitches who rely on the old and ignorant vote. Us Politics is young and fresh

Yes. But it is doubtful that he would ever get the official Republican nomination. Thus losing a large part of that 41% in the Obama vs Paul poll.

We are a long ways from that point. Why don't you try learning something from Paul rather than just saying he won't get the nomination. You think Paul doesn't realize he is fighting an uphill battle? He is already doing so much better than 2008.

He wont get the Republican nomination. As woozy said, hed to too much to hurt Wall Street to get backing from a party that makes a massive amount of money off of them. I know Paul's positions. Thats why I know he wont get the Republican nomination.

>implying im not Canadian.

American politics may be fun to watch from outside, but i would fucking hate to live in that country. The amount of complete bullshit involved in the policial system in America is astounding. Harper is a cunt, and people here don't care about voting, but i wouldn't trade our system with the US for anything.

US elections are a popularity contest. People consistantly spew lies and bullshit without getting called on it because the media is a complete joke. Its exciting/interesting because its a fucking shitshow.

I liked a lot of what he had to say. 11:55 - 12:30 was absolutely awesome!! I would say I agree with most of his points made in that video, it's tough not to the way he lays things out. He is for personal freedom and less federal government involvement across the board which I think would be a big step in the right direction for the future of the U.S.

Plus, whether you agree with any of his views or not, you have to give the guy credit. He says what he thinks. I didn't hear a single over politicized, bullshit filled remark in that entire video. When asked a question, he answers it and then gives a few sound points to back it up. That was extremely refreshing considering how many politicians, on both sides of the aisle, constantly skirt questions and don't give actual answers.

true, it is a shit show but at least they have leaders. we have nerds who I would make fun of. and who arnt even that smart in running a country

Ill give him credit for being consistent. Unlike neo-cons, at least hes always for small government, not just for small government where its convenient.

I watched the debate last night, and without a doubt, he gave the most direct and straightforward common-sense answers—particularly in regards to foreign policy. TRUE CONSERVATISM.
I also respected Gary Johnson's approach and answers.

x100it. will. never. EVER. happen.
If he had won the last election, we would have been absolutely fucked. He says he wants to get rid of the federal reserve and the IRS, says that federal income tax is illegal and he would do away with it. As much as I hate the idea of taxes, and hate even more the idea of us bailing out a ton of companies that fucked up their own money, could you think of what would have happened if Paul would have won in 2008? It sucks, but the the federal government has to take our money to pay for shit like, FBI, CIA, Army, Navy, pretty much anybody that carries a gun for their job that doesn't work for a state, NASA, federal aid, Pretty much all of that stuff that we already have to borrow money from other countries for.
But hey, China can pick up the tab.

Paul has stated that he will drastically cut military spending. The FBI, CIA etc. could all be streamlined a whole bunch as well.

NASA gets hardly any funding, which is disappointing.

One thing i hope Paul would do is greatly increase spending on science and education.

He wants to eliminate the Department of Education, so that will not happen. He doesn't think that the government should be spending money on things that the private sector could be doing much more efficiently.

much more efficiently? cause catholic schools don't cost a shit ton more per capita while still paying the teachers way less

He doesn't really know much about economics. The fed didn't cause the bubble, banks and poor regulation did. Also the job of the fed is to prevent inflation aka rising food and energy prices so eliminating that is kind of derp. most of the other stuff he said made sense though.

Ever since the Department of Education was created, test scores have continued to go down while spending has increased. Local governments can organize their own public education. The reason why catholic schools are more expensive is because they produce better results. Do you have any links that say catholic school teachers are paid much less? Even so, they can always leave and work somewhere else. No one is forcing them to teach there.

As long as America keeps thinking that people like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin could be legitimate candidates for President, we're fucked. The GOP's gotta think long and hard about what they really want to put up for the next election. In any case we've got a fucking year and a half until election time, it's way too early to start hearing about all this bullshit in my opinion.
Back on the subject of Ron Paul, he makes good points that indeed appeal to the popular opinion, but where we are now, a lot of them would not be feasible. I think it would be funny to totally withdraw all our troops from the Middle East and see the shit that goes down, but no winning campaign is gonna be built on that. I'm all for more states rights and less federal government, but I don't think America's ready for that until we get the economy straightened out and bring our troops home.

the reason i didn't vote (i live in Canada) was that it doesn't fucking matter who wins. nothing changes. my life literally has not changed a single bit since the election. whereas, if i lived in the States, i'd be so fucking terrified of a guy like Trump winning that i would have no choice but to vote for fear of my life being destroyed by my own president.

i am all for Canadian politics because they don't matter. it's like gambling with monopoly money, i can't win or lose.

I take classes on that all the time, and I have done field observation here in milwaukee, trust me I am not naive, this city is a money pit and has nothing to show for it. I was just responding to the comment that somebody made that ron paul thinks "it would be more efficient in the private sector" I didn't ever hear Paul say that, but if he did he is a fucking moron. First of all, there is a reason we have had public schools for the last hundred or more years.
I went to a private school, and I know that they usually have better grades, but it really is not because they have better teachers. Private school teachers make a whole lot less than public, and unless the teacher is a serious Jesus freak, the best teachers will go to the places where they get paid the most.
The reason that private schools do so much better (brace for what will sound like racism) is that they are mostly white and suburban, their parents are paying for them to go to school, and going to college (which requires decent grades) becomes a norm for cyclical reasons (parents go to private schools, go to college, afford private schools for their kids) Also, students who have friends that are getting good grades will get better grades than the kid who is surrounded by kids who don't give a shit in a crowded urban school.
Off track, what I am getting at is that as a future teacher, especially in milwaukee wisconsin, I know of the waste and trumoil, but the notion of freezing federal funding is absolutely insane, turning something like that over to private sector would cause riots, if people thought that was a shitshow...... It would just never ever happen.

You misunderstood my original statement. I was responding to someone who said that they would like more money spent on education and science. I don't think that education should go over to the private sector, but rather be decentralized and turned over to local and state governments. Funding for science, on the other hand, should be a matter of the private sector.

I think this is a pretty naive view of things. Sure, things won't change as drastically when compared to the american system but that doesn't mean you shouldn't vote. Its a shame the NDP didn't win this election, Harper is a cunt and the only reason he won is because people are too afraid of legitimate change; people who would have voted for the liberals just voted conservative instead because they don't trust the NDP.

I like him, and many of his ideas but unfortunately, I think his policy on "legalizing freedom" and individual responsibility is what's going to kill him.

The gov't needs to protect us on certain things, and legalizing ALL drugs is simply an idea that no voter will spring for. Not many people actually want drugs like heroin legalized.

So private organizations can handle the most difficult questions in the universe (science) but they can't figure out education? I'm not following your logic.

or private organizations could do those things. I hear a lot of that space stuff is private these days..

gotta love ron paul, but the reason i'm not voting for him is that he trusts the states to do the right thing too much.

nasa's days of actualy doing shit are over, they pushed space travel and landed on the moon because of the competition from the soviets. nowadays its just as inefficient as any other government program... the only good thing they do now is pour money into the private sector.

Ron Paul is a bit of an idiot. Nice guy, but an idiot. His opinions on taxes and things like homosexuality are off in my opinion.
