Rollerblading

Is it even a thing anymore?

I started inline like a year ago, and its really fun (although I'm not that good). I feel like it's a dead sport tho.

Ik skateboarding is way cooler, and most skiers choose it over blades. But rollerblading feels sort of like skiing when u hit rails and stuff. Idk, does anybody still do it? I also wonder if skiing will take the same path. Some kid might be asking the same question about skiing 25 years from now.

Idk

What do you guys think

Getting deader by the day. There's no new talent, nobody skates so little kids don't see good rollerbladers at skateparks or wherever and beg their parents for rollerblades. You also can't go to walmart and pick up a pair of aggressive skates. Then again, even the average soccer mom should be proficient enough at google to find rollerwarehouse or aggressivemall. Indeed if you search "trick rollerblades" into google they're the first results.

Skiing's fine.

There's a really interesting rollerblading documentary called barely dead. It talks about the era when professional skaters were getting sponsored by like Gap and Levi's, and how these big companies hijacked the industry and then bounced once the popularity started to fade. I rollerbladed pretty seriously in junior high and highschool, but once you get to the level of handrails and big gaps it's just super scary and you get the shit beat out of you every time you go out. For me that started to get old, I started to hold back so I would be healthy enough to ski. and everyone I used to skate with went their separate ways in college, that's the way it goes. I want to get back into it just to casually ride park in the summertime it's really fun.

This is pretty much everyone's situation except there's no new talent to replace the people who stop skating and there's no little kids trying to buy rollerblade merchandise which only amounts to t shirts.

That sounds pretty interesting, I'll check it out.

I did a bit of rollerblading with one of my buddies a while ago. We sucked but it was a lot of fun. I often drive by the skatepark I used to go to and I never see anybody rollerblading. It's kind of sad to see it dying. It's got a bit of a stigma associated with it in that it will never be nearly as cool as skateboarding. But skiing suffered that same stigma at some point too when being compared to snowboarding. I think it has the potential to make a comeback. Like a_pla5tic_bag said, there needs to be new talent.

Obligatory Kaya Turski rollerblading video

Oh for sure, if I had a dime for every time some random skateboarder I'd never talked to snaked me on purpose or called me a faggot at a skatepark I'd have a lot of dimes.

I just got rid of mine. They sat in the closet collecting dust forever so I sold them on here for pretty cheap.

My mom actually called me last weekend to ask if she could throw away the other 2 pairs that were in her garage lol
