Rokinon 8mm "HD Fisheye"?

soo im looking into a Rokinon 8mm fisheye, and from what I can see they make two- there's the original one, and apparently a newer one with "HD optics and glass."

does anyone know if this actually makes much of a difference? or is it just another way for rokinon to squeeze some extra cash out of me

I assume the HD is just a stupid marketing thing. The cine ones are the same optically except the aperture rings are de-clicked, in other words there arent hard stops for the different f stop values.

Right now, you can get a $70 off deal from rokinon (so $230 for the 8mm canon mount). Here's a link http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=487212641324659&id=177519142294012 - fb page

canon mount - http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=ROFE8MC

use the code photopro70

Not sure if they have a $70 off for the cine version, but i think you can just get the normal version and declick the aperture by yourself (though it wont have the fancy red ring and follow focus gears, but im assuming you dont care about that)

Oh, forgot to add the HD version has a removable lens hood (the better optics is just a marketing thing, lol HD optics doesnt mean anything). Not sure why you would ever want to remove it (maybe for the appearance? You cant see it in frame or anything).

word thanks man, exactly what i had thought. looks like im going with the regular one to save some money because of features i really dont need.

ps the removable lens hood is so that it fills up more of the frame on fill-frame cameras like the 5D

the cine version has a declicked aperture, is measured in T stops (essentially f stops that account for light lost within the lens), and it has a permanently geared focus ring. This last feature is sometimes useful, but on a fisheye you really don't need to pull focus, or really even focus it unless you are shooting macro wide open and then switching to a shot of the horizon

You forgot to say that it's a 'super wide ultra tele FCKING fast fisheye from a great white shark on bath salts'

you realize that mocking him in every thread is even worse than the retarded posts he makes

please dont listen to this guy, he sounds so sure of himself but clearly hasnt done significant research between the two.

I have not either, at least im honest. Heres the way I see it: I dont have any comparisons to confirm it in this case but there can be a difference in quality even though all the specs are the same. I would assume there is less chromatic abberation and possibly better sarpness.

Dont be quick to dissregard such a gimmicky name as HD, there is probably a real difference, weather or not its significant, I dont know... do your research!

id be using it for skiing, but also other subjects. probably early season next year like mostly rails and stuff on my t4i
