Robinhood: zero commission stock trading for iphones

New app, I've been on the waitlist for a while, but noticed it is available to download today. If you are on the waitlist, it is view only currently. If you guys sign up with the referral link, I move up the waitlist.

Seems like a really cool concept, didn't see anything on here, so I figured this would be a good way to get myself and others trading on it the soonest.
 
See above - referrals and a pyramid based selling scheme! Who cares how it works, just go sign your friends up and have their friends sign up!!!

Lots of apps launch in a similar way to gain word of mouth while limiting growth to an amount their servers can handle. The biggest example I can think of is way back when gmail launched.

And again, asking how it plans to make money is irrelevant. Tons of apps launch with no real plans for revenue, they worry more about building the user base and worry about how to make money off them later. Think facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat, etc..
 
If this is real ill switch my brokerage and start going to town. Fucking 9 dollars a trade sucks. 18 dollars per play is pretty whack.
 
hmmmm. Now that i thought about it this could be the best idea for these 2 wall street experienced kids to get filthy filthy rich. It would be quite easy for a larger brokerage to buy them out.The more info on traders and wannabe traders they get the more valuable they become. Free is 100% undercutting all other brokerages, hopefully they hold strong and turn down those Millions stacked on Millions.

etrade is 10 a trade...annoying, especially for day trading. Hope Robinhood is legitimate and stays true to $0 or near $0 trading.
 
I'm in, I just need to send them a picture of a form of identification since I probably screwed up something. I also need to find my iPod since they don't support android yet.
 
Wow cool adult stocks stuff so much fun. I love investing towards the future instead of useing my money on dildos!
 
Sorry for being the most massive n00b, but could someone explain to me exactally what this is? I know it's with stock, like is it just free trading of stock?

Once they start allowing trading on margin (borrowing their money to trade with) they will charge people interest on the money they borrow, and that's how they will make money. They have pretty low costs, as they don't advertise much, and don't have many employees either, and at this point they aren't making any money as far as I know because they haven't opened margin trading yet.

Ive been using the app since march 2015 and I LOVE IT!

They have been consistently updating the app. the customer service is killer. I had a problem with an IPO and tweeted them about it. The next day they announced a team up with stocktwits.

It as legit as it gets.
