I'll be going from Boston to Bangor renting a car and as I've time for 2-3 days, I thought about checking out some Ski resorts around in NH and Vermont.
If somebody is informed about the local snow-conditions and parks or is around in some of the Ski-Resorts there, or can give me any tips about freeride lines or accomodations or places to stay, I'll be very thankfull.
Feel free to pm me if you'll be around, I'm especially looking forward to go to Killington, Jay Peak and eventually Stowe.I'm probably alone so I probably need somebody to test some freeride lines. Alone it's a little bit risky.
Thx in advance.

i would hit loon for sure and maybe sunday river, it depends how far out of the way you want to drive. wachussett might have a good park right now....

youre gonna be going seeeeriously out of the way if you plan on hitting places in vermont on the way to bangor...its the opposite side of new england.

Yeah, I know, but I initially planned to stay 4 days down in Boston before I go up via Portland to Bangor.
But then I thought 4 days in Boston suck! I'll rent a car driving up via Manchester to Lyndonville and check out where to ski for 2-3 days and then drive to Bangor.
The only place completely out of the way is Jay Peak.
I think Loon Mountain, Cannon Mountain, Burke Mountain, maybe also Bretton Woods, are reachable in 2-3 hours from Manchester and Bangor should be reachable in 4-5 hours by car.
Am I wrong on that?
I probably will stay more in NH then in Vermont, but I really would like to go to Killington.
Maybe 1st day Killington, then driving up to Lyndonville, 2nd day Loon Mountain or Burke Mountain, and then driving up to Jay Peak, 3rd day skiing there and then driving to Bangor.
Does somebody have an idea how long it takes to drive from Jay Peak to Bangor? Google says about 5 hours...

yea the drives about 5 hours... you will be driving right through the middle of bethel on your way back which is where sunday river is.. i live in lyndonville and ski burke every day but tuesday and thursday, let me know if your gonna ski there

from manch you should take 89 and go to killington, from there head to lyndonville and hit jay the next day, back track to lyndonville take 302 into NH and hit loon, maybe after loon take the kankamangus and go to sunday river by that time youre most the way to bangor and you hit all the good mountains

Thank you all!
I'll probably do as you proposed. But I'm thinking about leaving out Sunday River and hit Burke Mountain instead because philipc actually said he'll be there to ski. I wouldn't mind a local showing me the best spots, but I'm not sure if I can follow him on skis.

philipc: I'll eventually pm you to let you know if and when I'll be up in Lyndonville. Thx.

dude as nice as vermont is, its such an extra distance for you. i would recommend sticking to NH and maine. perhaps a day a loon, then cannon, then bretton, then sunday river. if you have the time and $$ that is

Yeah I know, but checked out some of the resorts and actually Killington, and Jay Peak seem to be great for wood skiing. I'm not a guy that hangs around the park for long so especially if I don't find somebody who can show me some tricks. I don't know how great loon, bretton or cannon mountain is.
Aren't the resorts like Kilington and Jay Peak worth all the extra distance? Aren't they much better then loon, bretton or sunday river? I've no idea yet if it's worth the extra distance.
I would hate myself leaving out Jay Peak and hearing afterwards that there would have been great powder there.
And you are right about the $, Killington wants 77$ that's pretty expensive compared to european lift ticket rates.

all killington really has going for it is that its big. just go to sunday river and save yourself some $.

loon is the best mountain on the east coast, so you gotta go there.

wait a sec, 4 days in boston sucks? Are you 21 because goin out in Boston can be a blast. Other then that I would hit up Loon, Boston to Mount Snow is only 3, Sunday river is 3 from boston too. Portland is a good stop to party at too, great micro brews. Again if your 21... Killington is not worth it unless you want to hang out with alot of strong island kids (sorry not hating but alot of New yorkers and Long Island people go to Killy).

Waterville is a good time too, Ihavent been this year but always have fun there. Pico is decent as well which is right by Killy (Killy to Boston is one 21/2 hours).

Keep us updated on your road trip and have a ton of fun!

if you mean snow quality, your wrong, if you mean park quality, your wrong, if you mean anything actually, your wrong...

your just wrong

i said nothing about park but yes killington does have better snow quality and just like i said they have better terrain, and if you try and tell me loon even compares to killington in those categories your a fool.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be in Boston from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2 and I'll watch a Bruins game and then maybe I'll going out there. But after 2-3 days in a bigger city I get sick of it.
And what's going out at night in Boston compared to a day skiing some threes and powder?
Besides that I'm slowly getting old for going out to party all the time. Sometimes it's fun but I prefer a day on skis and a relaxed evening then hitting all those loud and crowdy locals.
Anyways, I probably will leave out Killington and go up to Loon, Burke, Jay Peak. Eventually I'll change my trip and hit Sugarloaf or Sunday River.
I saw that Wildcat Mountain has pricy tickets. What has Wildcat Mountain to offer? Is it obvious that they have pricy tickets because their terrain, snow, park suck?

Loon obviously has a great park, but the snow quality and terrain is not comparable to mountains in northern Vermont.

Ok, as it looks for now I'll go up to Loon, Cannon or Burke Mountain on my first day. Hit Lyndonville and then the next day I'll probably hit Jay Peak (don't know why but I think I will like Jay Peak). 3rd day I'm probably going to Sunday River.
For those who will be around: I would be thankful for some company to check out bc or threes. Eventually I would also be happy to learn some tricks in the park from somebody (I suck in the park).
The ones that told me they'll be around (philipc and iakame$), I'll pm you in the next days, eventually we can meet at the given time! Thx.

Well, as it looks I'll be up on a Thuesday. If you find the time to be there I'll pay you one lousy beer. ;)

I hear ya the scene can get lame after awhile, I think I heard Wildcat is running a promotion for there 70th year open or something. If I see any info I will get at you.

Killington Stowe and Jay Peak are sick..... Stowe and Jay have really nice trees which are super easy to find..... sometimes theyre right off the trail and sometimes its a short hike but its totally worth it.
Killington is good for like an all around mountain and theyve had an awesome start to the season with snow.
If it's not too out of your way to come to VT...... maybe look into Mad River Glen or Sugarbush..... totally underrated mountains.
