My senior research paper was about this guy. I feel he embodies how people in America should be. Pat Tillman was a former football star for the Arizona Cardinals. He had everything he wanted, the job he wanted, and fame and fortune going his way. But he had that feeling that he was needed for something bigger. His grandfather was involved with Pearl Harbor and his father involved in Vietnam. He was quoted in a SportsCenter interview saying, 'I mean, my great grandfather was in Pearl Harbor, and what have I done for anyone else? Nothing' He gave up his comfortable lifestyle to join his brother in being an Army Ranger. He was sent over to Iraq and I hadn't heard anything of him until today when I switched on SportsCenter and saw the headline that he had been killed. Now, everyone doesn't have to agree with the war, but the least you can do is support the military...the people who it doesn't matter if they agree with the reason for the war or not, they have to go get 'er done. I dont know if he believe in what he was fighting for, but I sure as hell know he believed in who he was fighing for and that's all that is important. I wanted to see, if when he got back from Iraq, if he was going to be compated to Ted Williams, but it just isn't going to happen. So, I'm just letting everyone know that another good person was lost in this war...and that it's been happening way to much.

yeah i saw that on Sportscenter. A true warrior. I remember that a few years ago when he opted out of a NFL contract to join the army rangers, I thought that some real shit. It's a sad story but none the less an inspiring one.

i respect your mention of his death and rip to that guy. but you need to distinguish the differences between supporting the war and the military. the military is highly responsible for fueling the war. generals and military officials need to be held responsible just as much as bush.

R.I.P. This guy was a real hero, giving up millions of dollars a year to fight for a cause he believed in. He enlisted and was accepted in to the Army Rangers after 9/11 and served in Afghanistan, not Iraq.

ITs such an amazing story and i dont mean to distinguish between him and every other service men becuz what they all do is amazing for our country. But this man turned down a $3.6 million per year contract by AR. for $18K a year in the army Rangers to risk his life for us.

He is one of the reasons i am in the Marines delayed entry program and after a 13 week basic i plan to go active next year. He truly was a shiny inspiration and i gurantee he has no regrets with what he did.

^^slipknot your right we do neeed to show the respect to the other american soldiers, however one of my best friends is Scott Gomez who plays in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils and I have visited him a couple of times and seen how professional athletes live. It is fuckin' amazing. First of all they are young guys who are loaded with money. Any bar or restaurant that they go to they get their tab comped. They all drive beautiful cars. Every girl in the area wants a piece of them. They get free shit sent to them like North Face, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, etc. So anyone who would turn that down to fight for their country, like Pat Tillman, we need to pay a little extra respect to.

are you kidding me? it is fucking horrible when ANYONE dies, but it could have been easily avoided by us not being there in the first place. there are consiquences for us being retarded and going to WAR. of course people are going die. in fact we kill iraqi'd every day and we dont feel one bit of regret about it. Wow all this bickering is soiling this news, I'm a Marine in an attack helicopter squadron. I served in both Afghanistan and Iraq, I'm currently deployed in support of our forces in Korea. To everyone who disagrees with supporting our military, I have only one thing to say to you... Think long and hard as to why you've been allowed to form and hold YOUR beliefs all your life? It's people like me, Pat Tillman, and the millions of people like us who have served our country with our lives for the past 277 years. Even if your not American you still owe some kind of debt to your way of life you enjoy today, cause the world would be a very different place if we decided to 'just not go' in the worlds time of need. It's a very difficult life being away from everything you love in a place you know it's very possible you could be eating your last breakfast... But the beauty of it is we don't ask anything from our own citizens, we aren't there to control them like many other countries still in existence today. Maybe a thank you from time to time, and when we do get them it usually in a big way, but some of you can't even do that, and go as far as disrespecting us because of the life we chose. But I'm not sorry for serving my country, although I might not like it sometimes I'll always know I gave more to my nation than some fuckin' anti war slogan or a profanity yelled at a returning veteran of a war, which happened to me personally. If you want to complain about our current situation leave us out of it, we're only following orders and doing our jobs. Pat Tillman will be missed greatly, I remember hearing about that when I was shipped off to Afghanistan and was really surprised. But he paid the greatest price and then some, and you can't disrespect that...
