Ridiculousness MTV wants to use a video I made

So yesterday I got a dm on Instagram from the ridiculousness account saying that they wanted to use a video I posted on tik tok on their show. After talking with them they sent me an email (photos below) giving me three option on how I would be compensated for it and idk which fucking option to choose.

I'm no wizard with cash but 50/50 seems like the best deal just in case it blows up for whatever reason.

That’s what I’m thinking, plus I feel like they would sell it for me if they are selling it to another tv program

I got you bro.

The first option would give you the most leverage, they can only show it once and if they want to show it again they have to pay you again. The second option allows them to basically use the video as much as they want but they can't sell it to anyone else. Option 3 basically they add your video to a portfolio of shit they sell to other media companies and they basically make money off of your video, but you do too.

TBH idk the best opinion, if the video goes viral and you choose #2 then you're getting the shortest end of the stick, the 3rd option would possibly yield the most profit, but with option 1 and 2 you could sell the video to other media outlets yourself.

Can you post the video? Might be able to help you a little more if I can see the content.

Most of these companies are trying to milk money from free content (ie option 3) so you just gotta be careful and make a good decision here. If it was me, I'd go option 1 and if the video catches on/gets shown again/goes viral then I could sell that video to more outlets in the same way.

For real I was thinking they would offer more but it is what it is

Do you think the video has legs outside of MTV? If so, option 3 could be the best way to get cash, otherwise you could just cash in with option 2 and not worry about them playing/posting it as much as they want.

I mean I honestly don’t know if it would or not, I couldn’t tell you. I just wanna get the most cash possible and I don’t think a show like Ellen would play that video on her show

And also idk how I feel about giving up my rights and ownership of the video because if by some chance it’s goes viral then I’m not getting anything and I’ll be salty for who knows how long

lmao i forgot the description "i believe it's a guy wanting to fight a baby?"

so yeah no big deal regardless (no offense, it's just not a very valuable video i'm sure you agree). if that's you in that video i'd definitely consider whether you want them to have control of it though, plus if somehow it blows up you don't wanna miss out on money. so option B blows IMO

listen to eheath i'd say

Yeah the 3rd option is the only situation where you're giving up rights, if you just want the most cash option 2 might be best.

IDK much about the video you posted, i laughed but it didn't really seem viral to me, unless there is some trend i dont know about.

I missed the part on option 2 where they say you wont be able to sell the rights again.

I take back what I said, the only reason to go with #2 is if you know that the video won't be usable outside of the instance on MTV. Otherwise, option 1 is the best for you (hence why you get paid the least) so idk if an extra $200 is worth missing out on even a 1 in a million chance.

Yeah no, it’s not valuable at all in my opinion idk how it blew up in the first place, eheath knows all I I agree

I just don’t think it’s got a high probability of going any further though fuck idk

Yeah its a tough decision. In the end, even if the video went "viral" we're not talking about life changing money, so don't get too caught up in it.

if you're on the fence, here's my 2 cents: it's probably not gonna blow up so i say either take the first option, $100 (or see if they can come up on the offer a little for option 1, knowing that they might tell you to fuck yourself and that's that)

Idk, that's their first offer so they're probably trying to get it as cheaply as possible, probably will pay more if you ask them what's the most you'd pay lol

Also it could just be some scam to get your information or something, I'd email MTV and ask if this is legit or not.

From what I've seen, these companies have a surplus of content and if you don't take their rates, they move on. They are only paying you so they can legally use the video, they offer enough (100-300) to make it worth responding to the DM.

probably gonna go with third option who knows maybe I’ll get lucky or some shit

Question 1, do you know that baby? If not, the moment you profit from it, it becomes all the more complicated.

Do you even get any money with option 3 or does this just give them the right to use it as much as they please? Which could be once and never again. It says you share 50/50 in profits but I doubt that includes profits from any airing of it on their channel(s). MTV is owned by Viacom so would these rights be engulfed in that conglomerate? If so, your market of who else could use the video and have to pay for it are very slim. In other words, giving rights to one of the biggest networks ever created limits its marketability.

Each ridiculousness episode has tons of videos per episode and they have tons of episodes. You won't be unique. Consider that too.

I do not know the baby. However I expressed a concern about being sued or whatever and talk to a producer over the phone who said that they have ways to make sure that doesn’t happen so I’m all good on that front.

i would not receive a pay out at the time I sign an agreement if I take option 3. I will get compensation whenever they sell the video to another program.

and I’m not sure if I’m doing this through Viacom, the company that is in contact with me is called Launchpad Entertainment. Like someone said earlier my video would be put into a category or something but I’m not sure what exactly happens

I would take the third deal.

What's cooler than having a lifelong agreement with MTV?

That’s true lol I never thought about it that way and the more I think about it $100 is $100 not anything to get super excited about anyways ya know. And if I could maybe have the chance to make more even if it’s slim I’d rather go that route.

As someone who worked with MTV to have a clip on "Scarred" go with option 2 and ask for a little bit more just to see if they say yes.

Take the money and buy drugs.

I got a clip on that science of stupid show but it wasn't my clip so i didn't get anything just a brain injury.

Sure it's not much but in this economy fuck it.

Counter contract, you don't need to choose Yodit's? options. You can make a contract and come to a consensus with her.

I would choose the last option but you can always counter that conteact, tell Yodit, 75 for me 25 for you. If she brings it down to 60, stay strong and email her back "seventy fucking five percent."

I already signed it for option b just got them to go up to $400 though

Nice, counter. I'd probably have chosen the 3rd option and counter them with a higher % but I'd bet they wouldn't take it. There's so many videos out there, I'd bet there's thousands of different videos of guys wanting to fight babies.

Specify in the contract that, whenever showing the video, they explicitly confirm that you could, indeed, kick that kid's ass.

Edit - idk why the double post but this one can be deleted
