Revisiting ON3P 3 in 2023

I'm currently down with my 12th concussion and I've been using my free time to revisit some old ski bits. Today I popped on to the ON3P youtube and decided to hit play on ON3P 3. At the time I first watched it back in 2018 I didn't remember being wowed by it but jumping back in 2023 was eye opening. What a fucking masterpiece.

The riders:

I was never keen on the new wave meme but man does this movie have some big dogs in it. Siver has long been my favorite skier and this movie totally reminded me why. Magnus had bangers. LSM had bangers. Mango was a stud. Ian king was awesome but most importantly they were all fun to watch. The hands and track pants were goofy but they were iconic. They were fresh. It was something to really think about.

The cinematography:

Absolutely brilliant. The whole movie had a style and a vibe and it stuck to it. The shots were beautiful. The backdrops were beautiful. The b-roll was fun and really showed you the chemistry and comradery. The music wasn't my taste per say but I was totally okay with that because it fit the vibe and it had energy.

The skis:

This is a bit goofy but the ON3P lineup from 2019 had some absolutely classic topsheets and skis. The kartels and the magnus's were so dope. The customs were basically just solid colors. It was so cool to see those again.

I'd recommend checking it out again even if those riders aren't your cup of tea. It really was a moment in history that even just 4 and half years removed feels like a different generation of skiing entirely. Most of the riders have moved on to other things or been cut from the team but its so cool to look back and see the chemistry those guys had. Love it or hate it they changed the sport we know today in a huge way and ON3P 3 is like a time capsule of an revolutionary time in freeskiing

For me, its ON3P 4. The intro alone makes me feel all goey inside :)

On3p 3 best park team video of all time

on3p 4 best street team video of all time

what a run.

Literally just rewatched this again the other day and was also reminded at how groundbreaking it was at the time. It's one of those movies I watched and was hyped for, and was not only not disappointed... But it exceeded my expectations which I think is rare lol.

Also for all of you zootspace dick riders, I believe ON3P 4 was sort of the beginning and during the first stages of zootspace. Those dudes did some absolutely heinous shit in that movie and it's definitely a special one

I think that movie feels like a different era because it really was. I know I will probably get called a “zootspace dick rider” for this, but weather you like it or not that movie marked the beginning of a new era in skiing. There were a lot of movies leading up to it like eat the guts and on3p4 for sure but zootspace crystallized the vision. Been watching ski movies for 20+ years and that one was an obvious game changer IMO

ON3P 3 is definitely one of the definitive new wave movies. I also recommend you watch thetrashparty “video entertainment” from 2014, that movie has the most new wave/hesh vibe, just classic mid 2010s content

With respect for Roasted and Stain as well.

Stain came out in 2018. I agree that stain and on3p4 are mandatory viewing, especially for people who liked zootspace

One of the best videos of all time imo. It's my go to video to people who ski, people who don't ski, people who don't ski park, people who ski park, people who mtb or do other sports etc.

It really is the complete package when it comes to the skiing, B-roll, music and tricks.

Only movie that I've ever seen that gives me the amazing on3p 3 vibes is cruise control.

Oh, and also, in the later half in the park shoot. The skiing is so fucking loose it's great. No speed checks. Completely missing landings or gapping entire rails. Gnarly falls. So good

Seeing Meeks lay down the biggest backslide blind 2 known to man for the first time made me wanna sell all my shit and get on the next flight to Oregon. Such a monumental film. I still ski at 200% when Tha Mobb comes up on shuffle.

I'm like 90% sure zootspace was just a hoodcrew movie that included literally every single pro skier old and new

Hoodcrew movies to me had a different vibe but I see what you mean lol

Weirdly never seen on3p 4 but if people are putting it up there with Mutiny in terms of street videos I'm gonna need to check it out! Hopefully has better music than Mutiny!

On3p 4 has my all time favorite soundtrack. Ideal world and crust bucket are sooo chill

I remember watching this movie at a premiere at Evo in Portland. it was my freshman year at Lewis & Clark College, I had just moved across the country from MN to go to school and ski Hood.

This movie will always hold a special place for me, really represents a big reason I moved out to Portland. Nearly 5 years later I ended up moving back to MN to be closer to family and to finish school after a rough patch with the pandemic.

Definitely miss it out there! Excited for spring camping and skiing with the homies
