Review: MFD ALLTIME Alpine Touring Binding

"If you bought a Duke 5 or 6 years ago because you were looking for an alpine binding to tour with, I would suggest that you throw it away and buy the MFD"

- the words of Joe Augusten his review of the new ALLTIME touring setup from MFD. If you're looking to access the untouched expanses of backcountry terrain but don’t want to sacrifice the performance of a high-DIN alpine binding, this may be just the setup you're looking for.

Read the BLISTER review here:

Cheers

Is that yours?? if yes, thanks a lot for the review, I´ve been waiting for a good review on the MFD. Really happy with the review, expected the MFD to be like this, just wanna know how hard they can perform.

i want you to beat the absolute shit out of this, the tyrolia/dynafit toe setup, and duke.

Definitely. We're just as excited about the "tyrolia/dynafit toe setup" you're talking about - or Green Mountain Freeride binding - as everyone else. It's certainly looks to be a seriously strong competitor to the more than adequate MFD system.

We'll been on the Green Mountain System asap.

im hoping the gmf option does well, cuz frankly dragging around this plate and bindings all day seems obnoxious. the gmf thing looks to free your heel so you drag much less weight.

mfd would be like touring with my dynafits and a 10 pound weight dangling from my heel.

so if you get a bigger boot does that mean you need new mfd plates also? seeing that the bindings have to be placed on the plate by a tap that bonds the aluminum and the binding?

i skimmed the review, but he goes over that i think (pg 2-3 maybe). It says you can redrill and it compromises the strength, or you can modify with some t nuts. right? i could be totally wrong though...

He is dead on. i had a pair last season, just sold it and am waiting for some dynafit radicals in the mail right now. Cool concept, but way too heavy, kills the flex of the ski, and although i had no problems with the binding, almost everyone else i know that was using it broke something, or had to modify it to make it work properly. super cool guy that runs the company, super cool concept, it just definitely needs some dialing to make it relevant, especially with the radical and the guardian to come out now

The MFD's you can buy now dont kill the flex.. Its hard for me to explain it what they changed, something in the heelpiece, but read the blister review and you will know..

Dont know if other problems you had were solved as well, but I never heard anyone else about breaking parts etc..

I had the same exact MFD featured in the review, and it allows the heel to move and flex a little bit, but having a 18-20 inch long aluminum plate between you and your ski definitely alters the flex. It flexes a little bit, but it is definitely not anywhere as crisp and clean as a true alpine ride. Awesome idea, i am confident over the next few years jason will iron things out, it just isnt quite there yet. incredible step in the right direction!

this would definitly void any warranty and is not recommended by the manufacturer. Joe says in his review he would try this if he had to swap bindings (or remount for different boots) just to see if it works. But that sounds sketchy to me.

could you list the equipement you tour on and # of days toured last season?

Smuggs I and most eveyone else with a clue knows what he said to be true. I don't need to install to look at weight #'s and laugh out mother fuckin loud

now go ask mom for bfast and gather up your pokey cards and get to school wearin sketchers today?

MDF is a niche product for those who go as big as sage catipillerosa but haven't figured out how to do it with finesse on lightweight tech binder like Hoji

and patient friends who will wait while you drag excess weight uphill

Hello all,

I thought I'd let you know that we've posted an Update to the MFD review, in which Joe speaks more to the system's skiing performance. He finds that his "previous concerns of the long mount length and its effects on the flex of the ski were quickly thrown out the window," something (based on the above comments)that may be of interest to some of you.

The Updates can be found here on pg 5 of the initial review:

As always, thanks for reading!

yeah i read the whole thing but like if you do modify it how stable will it be after. This looks like the only downside of the alltimes expecially for a kid whos still growing

sorry for dub post but that update almost seals the deal for me. I personally like stiffer skis so having the alltime stiffen up my ski even more is great and i ski on a 168 pow ski so it should make em like planks!
