Revelstoke's Pricing

For a good laugh at what the idiots up in Revelstoke (BC's f*cking armpit) are trying to charge for "on-hill" condos at the new resort, have a look at the following link:

http://www.discoverrevelstoke.com/preview/pdf/rmr_proprice.pdf

I don't know who organizes this sh*t, but the only people that are going to pay that money are foreign investors. Continue to expect empty whistler-style condos galore.

Only a retard would invest in that. Seeing as any major town/city is over 4hrs away, Revelstoke WILL NEVER be a major destination resort. Who's going to pay $1m for some place you can't use every weekend? Only the ultra rich.

Look at Kicking Horse....that's over and hour closer to anywhere not arm-pit-ish, a sicke mountain, and a way nicer drive, yet it's taken like 7 years to get to where it is now....which is a few over-priced condos surrounded by even bigger un-attainable chalets, surrounded by a town that's hasn't changed, where prime housing goes for under $200k a pop.

i really think you are under-estemating the real estate market and the skiing industry right now.

I mean Fernie is 3 hours away from Calgary and it was successfull in becoming a 'resort'. Red Mountain is currently in the process of condoizing and becoming a resort and we're a good 6 to 7 hours from the closest city. 3 to 4 hours from the nearest dependable airport due to Castlegar being Canclegar most of the time).

The ski hill at revelstoke is going to be big, why the hell wouldn't they make it? I mean, the town has the largest snowmobile club in the world, people are already traveling there, put up a big ass ski hill, people will buy.

It sounds more like you can't afford a condo... and before you bash these "idiots" for creating all this resort infrastucture, perhaps you should look at who is doing it. Its no one from revelstoke, rather Sotherby's... one of -if not the largest interantional resort reality company around...

I'd bet even money that they have a better feel for what will sink or swim than you.

If you check out my comments, smart-ass, I never said that condos wouldn't sell. My point is that it's going to be another "quaint" million dollar resort town....trying to immitate something that's pretty damn disfunctional (Whistler/Aspen...etc).

Vacant Condo's owned by millionaires aren't good for business. They won't kill business, but they won't help it either.

If the developer gave a sh*t about anything other than getting top $$$ (though that's what they're programmed to do), then he'd see that this is a super great opportunity to create something great....great for everyone....investors, townspeople, the riding community...etc.

I guess I'm just getting pretty damn tired of this all. And please don't say it's good for the ski industry. How is it?

I've never been to RED, but I've been to Fernie, and I can say that about 5-10% of those massive on-hill places are in use at any given time.

in order for a resort to grow, they need to sell REAL ESTATE. thats their main source of revenue, way more than what the ski are would make. So for a project of this size to successfully take off, this is extremely necessary. Its not because the developer wants to just make money, they want to make money to develop the ski resort. it is their job title, is it not?

since when did the houses right at the base of the hill have anything to do with skiing? who gives a fuck if some rich dudes owns some ski in ski out condo's? there's already a town in existance there, it's called revelstoke.

do you think the houses at the base of Fernie Alpine Resort represent what Fernie is as a town?

Red Mountain would most likely have to close down if they didn't start doing the whole development thing. the condo's are saving the hill. sure it will make the place busier, maybe more expensive, and all that other stuff that goes with the territory, but whatever keeps the lifts running is good in my books.
