Revelstoke Question.

HEy guys, next season im going to revelstoke for the season or for 3 month ( January,February and march)

First question, I was looking for jobs and was wondering how hard it it to get a job there. Revelstoke resort is pretty small, what I meen by small is that they don't have as much job opportunity like Whistler and other big resort. So If im from Montreal when should I move if I want a Job? November ? Should I work at resort or restaurant or hotel ?

If i can't come for november I was thinking about going for three month and don't work. How hard is it to get a appartement or a room if i come by January?

SEcond question, I was planing on buying some new powder ski, Salomon rocker 2 122 or 115. I was thinking about selling my Jester and buy some Guardian, but does a touring set-up is a must ? I know there roger pass near so im tempted to buy a touring set-up. But that being said, I would need some Avalanche course and some homies to ride up there.

P.S My english is not really good but im taking some course right now to get better and have better experience there.

Btw If you are looking for a roomate next winter let me know. Im 20 years old.

All I know about the real estate scene there is that there is not too much. In terms of jobs, unless you work for BC Hydro or the rail road a job is probably not going to be easy to find.

In terms of avy courses Revelstoke offers them fairly often, if I understand their site correctly.

One of my days at Revelstoke I skied this years Rocker 2. It was super fun, and I would definitely recommend it. I stayed in bounds with it. I don't know anything about the touring scene there but I don't doubt the ease at which you could find zones to shred.

Get the 115 an put a touring binding on it.

Go in November. find a job. get money. drink beer. ski steep slopes. set of avalanches, and utilities the skills you will learn in the avi course you do in Dec/Jan.

But definitely put touring bindings on.

Thanks, Im set on the 115 and guardian.

Im scared of going in November cause I won't have as much money then I want. Maybe 3 000$ max and my gear will be all paid up (except for skins and avy gear)

Can someone give a Hint for the housing, best place and what not .

Go to whistler.

If you really want to take advantage of revelstoke, you'll need a lot more experience than you currently have. Go to Whistler and earn some XP and then plan for revy the following season.

Also plan on having a dedicated inbounds set up, and a dedicated touring set up. Cause plastic hybrid bindings that are designed to do everything suck in every way.

Hey dude,

I spent the last 2 seasons in Revy and it is so fun. Since it's your first season, a dedicated touring set-up isn't maybe necessary as you learn the basics and gain experience. I rocked JJ's with dukes pretty well everyday and they are a perfect ski for Revy. The slackcountry is very accessible and holds great skiing. Also, February for the past 2 years has been fairly dry and stable, so it's a great chance do get out and do some touring. If you're staying in or around the resort, bring some other skis to shred groomers with or visit other resorts for some park laps.

In town, your own apartment is not easy to find, but a room in a house generally isn't too bad. I lived in Colombia Park, which is only good if you have your own car, live close to the shuttle (costs 2$ per ride or a season pass for like 130$, FREE if you work at the resort), and don't party too much (45 minute walk home from the bars). The best places to live IMO are downtown or southside because they are close to everything from shuttle stops to bars to grocery stores. Rooms in a house can range froom 300-550 per month, but if you're lucky and get a good house it may be less. My first year I paid 250 per month, but we were 6 people.

The job market can be tough to break into, especially that late. Most jobs are shitty anyway(housekeeping or line cook types) I would recommend what I did last year, which was not work until I was broke then found a job. I lasted 4 months on the same amount, just cut down party costs and ski more. This past year I was a part time lifty, so I got free pass, free bus pass, discounted avy gear and other pro deals, and only worked 2 days a week. SICK times. That's why you're there anyway, and skiing 6-7 days a week is fuckin great. If you are doing 3 months, buy your pass on the early bird price before Oct 1st (700ish), start looking on the stokelist for apartments or people looking for a roommate in Nov-Dec, take AST1 as soon as you get there (beneficial even for skiing inbounds, avy danger is everywhere), and be ready to live like a ski bum. Sacrifice small stuff for the skiing.

Good luck to you bud, and don't worry about language issues, I lived with all french dudes this year and there's a lot of them around!

Thank you for the reply all's.

LIke someone said above, going to Whistler would be a better option for job and gettin experience.

But the fact is, that i don't really want to go to Whistler for many reason. But Whistler have some interview in Montreal around september, so I might go and see what's up. If I can get a Job before I leave, I might go to whistler.

I was thinking about going to Revy cause to mountain look sick, the village/town is more calm, less nightlife. I want to ski 5 or 6 days a week. I want to ski and make friends to ski whit them.

Skicowboy, I want a room i a house, not an appartement (my mistake). I might have a car, my parent will give me their old car or im gonna buy a old truck for cheap when Im gonna be there. How hard it was to have a part time job as a lifty? I would love this timpe of job, make some bucks and ski 5 days a week.

For the ski, I allready have a pair of daily driver ( salomon 2012), I gonna buy a new powder set-up, Salomon rocker 2 or 115, whit guardian or sth 16, depend on the deal's I have.

And surfacehoar I've already been to Utah, Colorado and jackson hole, so I think i'll be able to ski revelstoke and the arounds. I got my monitor lvl here in quebec, but I don't like teaching others people.

Jobs will be going up on the RMR website in August - keep your eyes open - you can apply online. The best chance of getting a job at the resort is by moving to town early - late October at the latest, as training starts mid-November and you'll need to interview as well. Definitely buy your season pass early though, as you get refunded if you get a job at the mountain.

There are also quite a few hospitality jobs going in town if you have experience. The Stoke List is the best place to find accommodation for sure (list.thestoke.ca) and if you move into a larger house with some knowledgeable people then you'll have touring partners pre-selected. Good luck!

Sup guys.

I also plan to move in the Revelstoke area next season from Montreal and I'd have a few questions for you people.

First, this is for people that already lived there, I'm currently stacking up money so I can move in before winter and live off it untill finding a job. How much did the average week of grocery used to cost you? That way I'd have a better idea of how much money I'd need.

Second, do any of you know what kind of chairlifts they have there? I have 3 years of experience as chairlift operator and I'd like to know if they have any of the lifts I work with there. It would be awesome.

And last, me and my friend are looking for roommates for our future place in Revie. I'm 19, he's 18. If you listen to good music, like skiing and enjoy beer as much as we do, I think there is potential for massive chilling over there.

Peace!

Sick! The more people we are sharing a place, the less expensive it will be.

Comme je peux voire tu parle français aussi! That's a good thing.

But the thing is, I might move in with one of my friends who's probably going to get kicked out of his parent's house. He'd move in with somebody he knows in Revy and I'd move in after. Nothing's sure at this point for me.
