Revelstoke Getting a Park ?

I ve heard revelstoke mountain resort is doing their first legit terrain park this year. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumour? If so, I may have to make a trip down.

well , you see here, there's some thing called not good mountain conditions, persay when it doesnt snow, or gets wind blown, these times you may want to ski park... and on top of that its another attraction to bring customers in./

i would be willing to bet that revelstoke would lose money on a park if they built one. i dont think their would nearly enough people that would come just for the park to offset the cost of building one. from what i've been hearing, money is already really tight for the resort.

i just dont see it happening. but i could be wrong.

true on their money issues, but think it like this. A family wants to go on a ski trip mom and dad like to ski basically any thing, soa ny mountain will do. sally likes to ski long groomers and go fast, so really any mountain will do. but Joe likes to ski park... and well if you want to go on a vaca you want to go some were to please every one. so lets find a mountain that has a good park. this now excludes half the mountains any were. so now mountains like revelstoke loose out on a whole family + more not going to their mountain becasue it doesn't satisfy one persons needs

to get to revelstoke from any major city (calgary, van, kelowna), you basically pass 2 or 3 mountains that already have a decent park and are already more suited towards family ski trips. revy is kinda in the middle of nowhere for most people, and both routes in can get very nasty in the winter.

they still aren't going to draw enough people in with a terrain park to make it profitable.

No one would ever go to revy for their park. The closest thing to a park at revelstoke are random jumps around the mountain, which are usually sick

I knew that, but its marketing, and i expected its some sorta equation what i explained. you can never know until you try, i mean look at my home mountain, schweizter. nearest international air port is 3 hours away and you wouldnt believe th amount or tourests who come ( and its not for our park =( )

It's on the wishlist, but not for this season. The mountain would need to purchase or lease another cat to build and maintain a proper terrain park.

Can't say for sure but last season they had a very mini-park on the lower mountain, built and maintained by the grooming staff in their spare time I think.

If anything it would be likely they'd something pretty small. From what I read above they already have so most likely they're probably just adding some features and maybe planning a few legit jumps or something.

they should just hire tommy ellingson as the head park guy and hed build jumps all over and itd be so ill

it would be so cool if they did that. Like bear mountain where almost every run has some features, but just all natural features, hits and jumps.

If my parents are going to pay for a ski trip, I will go wherever they want. I don't see any possible downside. If you can figure out a way to complain you are just ungrateful.

lol , i woudlnt complain, but when you set up a ski trip you look into it and figure out whats going to suit every one.

Signed in just to quote this.

Please no park rats spinning laps on the 3 lifts that exist

I've heard the rumour, but honestly have no idea. The run under the Stoke Chair would make for a decent park, but it's never going to happen. I could see all of Paradise at Red Mountain turn into a full park before Revy makes a proper park.

The hill is silly anyways. *stops self from going on rant*

there also something called sidecountry for that. and backcountry. and Rogers-mother-fucking-Pass. But you go have fun in the park.

theres such thing as bad conditions out there too. I dont think adding a terrain park to a mountain, no matter where that mountain is or how sick the terrain is at and around the resort, should be considered a bad thing. They arent swapping their backcountry for a park.

lol? you have to be kidding me? if its bad conditions its almost bad conditions every were. not every one has access or wants to go to side county

Definitely are times where conditions aren't epic, or deep powder is hard to find. But it's pretty dam rare that conditions suck. When they do, it usually means stability is good and the high alpine north faces are good to go.

Pretty rare than conditions actually suck.

oh so noooooooow you would consider going? I guess it makes sense so they can cater to all types of tourists and create more of a draw.

Im pretty sure it would be a waste of money, people don't go to revy to ski park, period. And for people trying to ague that it would be to cater for a family, Banff isn't too far away and is waaay closer to an airport.

it would be dope if a place like that made a bunch of features like wallrides and just a couple little jibs around, make it look similar to some mountain bike parks

Instead of Revy building a park, why not put park elements around the mountain in random places? Like cannons off small cliffs or wall rides in secluded places.

I think that would be cool.

It's a question of liability. You can't designate an entire resort as freestyle terrain when you're trying to cater to every demographic. It's not practical from an insurance, maintenance or marketing perspective.

K Horse did this and it failed miserably. Then RCR showed up...

And haven't you guys heard of Mt. Revelstoke National PARK. hehe

haha usually ride silverstar for park and revy for pow. silverstar's parks gonna suck this year, might as well just ski pow

I'm sorry, Caleb, but Revelstoke will not be getting a park anytime soon. Quite honestly, the culture at Revy--or Rossland*, or Kicking Horse, or Nelson for that matter--kind of precludes it. (Although that doesn't rule it out entirely.) There are multiple reasons for this.

1. Revelstoke isn't a place where families go on vacation. At least, not in the same sense as, say, Vail, or Lake Tahoe, Whistler, or Park City. The clientele is decidedly different. There aren't really new skiers coming to Revelstoke to learn to ski. These are primarily seasoned, expert skiers who are interested in skiing powder, trees, cliffs, and big mountain lines. You need to understand that even now, Revelstoke and that entire area of B.C. is still more of a destination for cat skiing and heli skiing than it is for lift-serviced skiing. This further contributes to the culture in the area.

2. Locals tend to simply forego skiing entirely, switch to snowmobiling, try to find backcountry and sidecountry shots, and engage in other activities when "the snow isn't good."

3. There are very few--and I do mean very few--times when "the snow isn't good" somewhere in Revelstoke or near Revelstoke. Typically there are at least some aspects that are good, if not excellent, within a few miles in each direction. And even in the rare event that there aren't--who fucking cares? You're in Revelstoke--one of the extreme skiing capitals of the world! You can ski park anywhere, but this place is a unique experience that deserves to be treated as such. In all due respect to the freeskiing side of me who resists this idea, this is an area that simply must be skied in a certain way in order to get the full experience. It simply must.

Look, I understand the idea that a park in Revelstoke may seem like a good idea now, but I'd much rather the resort save that money and invest in further expanding the ski area boundary and constructing new lifts.

Schweitzer, by the way, is a completely different story. It's been my home mountain for nearly fifteen years. Not only does it only take an hour and a half to get from Spokane International to Sandpoint, and not three hours as you falsely claimed, but I'd say that the percentage of out-of-area visitors is only somewhere between 30-40%. (For a resort the size of Schweitzer, that's not great.) As well, Revy gets as many as 300 more inches of annual snowfall than Schweitzer, and as great as Selkirk Powder Company is, it's more of a novelty than a culture-builder. The comparison between the two is so faulty that it's laughable.

Look, a park in Revelstoke will come eventually as the resort continues to grow. Just not yet.

I spend last season in Revy, had some friend working at the resort and heard some rumors for this year. The park was one, but i'm pretty sure they're just gonna put 3 or 4 rail at the bottom this year too.I don't see a park at revy, first of, there is only snow above the gondola, and most of the time it's foggy or snowing. And Revy don't make huge money, they are pretty broke as I know.

I heard that they are gonna groom the ninja traverse all the way, hope that's false cause it's was so much fun to go fast and scared the old people by cutting them.

I never said they would be getting a park............I bluntly stated reasons why they could , would or might be thinking of putting in a park.

Put it this way, you live at a hill with a really good park and no big mountain, you will eventually get bored of park and talk about how you want to ski big mountain.. maybe they ski big mountain so much that having a park would be a nice change
