Replacing Edges/ Base Work

Underfoot on my urbans is kinda shot base wise/edge wise and I was gonna try to replace the edge and rebuild the base just to get some practice. I googled around and didn't find much other than expensive machines and shops to take my skis to. What material is used for the base? I figure I can find ski edge material at my shop. I thought I would grind out the old/shitty material with a dremel and then work on rebuilding the base and the edge. But does anybody have any tips or pointers before I start?
 
edge work is a little harder but base wise just get some ptex, melt it into the hole your trying to fill then file it off

If the edge hasn't fallen out but is just coming away you could try epoxying it, kinda the same thing but longer process.
 
There really is no way to replace your edge. The edge is not put on post laminating. It is constructed into the ski. If you rip apart a ski, you can see how it is connected. You would essentially have to de-laminate the base, rip the edge out, replace it, and find a way to re-laminate the base. P-tex for base repairs. It may require a base weld which is tougher. When you talk about rebuilding your edge, it sounds like you are going to try weld more metal onto the edge. The amount of heat you would need to do that would completely destroy the ski.
