Repairable Boot Wear And Tear

I'm wondering if anyone has some general advice on what kinds of boot damage signals the end of a boot's life (unrepairable)

I don't want to be caught mid season needing a new boot, and would rather pre-emptively purchase one during a summer sale.

I'm just unsure what type of damage to look for that is an easy fix vs new boot time
