Reno vs SLC

Skiing from Reno is close maybe 45 minutes. A ton of mountains are accessable too. U of N is a pretty decent college too

Better snow in the Wasatch. But at Tahoe you have crazy places like Squaw and Alpine and places with a killer park like Northstar. However, you have Alta and Park City in Utah.

It's easier to ski in SLC and more people do it

Reno is gross, plain and simple. I would NEVER want to live anywhere around there.

slc hands down. if you want to shred tahoe and live in a city live over on the other side, closer to sac. reno suucks. but either way i'd say salt lake is mo' betta.

both are dirty. but if your big into hiking and getting out in the BC tahoe has one of the safest snow packs in the US so u can get around with only an elementary understanding of how snow bonds. BUT SLC has the scene if one likes pro hoeing. but i would suggest tahoe SLC is the burbs everywhere, tahoe is a beautiful place, and from reno u can be up there in 40 mins. 30 or less if you go to Mt. Rose.

Uh.... yea if you have a deathwish.

Just saying it's a safe snowpack and going for it is a horrible idea. The snowpack is generally more stable, but you can die just as fast in Tahoe as in SLC.

SLC is 100% the suburbs. Good skiing in both spots, way more night life in pc than slc though, and as far as pc's park goes.... word is the new guy wants nothing to do with pc anymore so who knows what it will be like next year. Ogden is up and coming city thats mentioned all over for up and coming job opps but filled with meth and is straight dirt. U of U is a piece of shit and has no leverage to get you a job UNLESS you go into med school or get an mba, so maybe choose Westminster if you go SLC. Realize SLC has no diversity, the government does not believe global warming is a real thing, and SLC is over 50 years overdue for a major earth quake that will destroy that entire city from 1300 east and down if it happens. There are cool people and to some degree the mormon thing doesnt affect you, but it is there full force if you give a shit about anything else besides skiing, not to mention having almost everyone in your class including your professor talking about their missions over what you paid for gets annoying quick. SLC also access to the unitas if you cop a sled and that place is legit. If I was you I would consider sierra nevada college over reno, it's basically lake front and that much closer to skiing. It's a tough one, kinda goes either way... both have huge up's and down's.

Oh and as far as the backcountry goes... SLC does have the unitas which are the shit if you have a sled, or a few good canyons for hiking. But senora pass might just own those places in every way, though it's 2 hours away. Uintahs are prob a little over an hour from slc to the trail head with grizzly 30 min away and same with guardsmans, though guardsmans is getting developed.
Realize most of the kids in here saying slc rules have never been 20 miles into the uintas and mostly ride park city park on pow days cause tom w rides there.

Utah has lighter snow, and phenomenal mountains. Tahoe has great mountains, but slightly heavier snow. Heavy snow can be a good thing though, sometimes the sticky stuff pastes on to rocks better than light stuff, meaning steeps can be in better condition.

Squaw and Alpine are usually good until the end of May, although Squaw closed on May 10 this year. I don't know how long the Utah season lasts.

I lived in Tahoe for many years, during and after college and before grad school. I might be a bit biased towards Tahoe, but skiing-wise you can't go wrong with either place. Both have great mountains and tons of snow.

wow, so much hate for NO town. its cool tho, all you guys can stay in slc, we dont want more cocky little fucks who think they know everything about a place from simply driving thru.

hahahah fuckin right.

ive been to reno and wasnt impressed, maybe i should go and check it out again. all im sayin is ive enjoyed salt lake.

I dont hate SLC, I lived there longer than most of the out of towner's have. BUT I feel there are major problems with that place without mentioning the skiing. Clearly the skiing is amazing in Utah. I would never ever live in Reno also, it is a piece of shit in every way. But I think the state of Utah is fucked in more ways than just one through it's truly ignorant lds ran gov. And it has developed this faggy ski scene there that thrives of playing dress up over focusing on YOUR abilities to rip down the mtns.

Hahaha.

There's so much you don't know about this place.

here's an abridged list so I can get back to work.

-PC is sinking a ton of money and time into the park next 2 years, don't know where "the word" comes from , but it's not true.

-Everyone knows Ogden sucks

-The U is wayyy more legit that UNR

-Reno is more likely to be affected by earthquakes than SLC

-You're blowing the mormon thing way out of proportion

-There's way more legit terrain (quality and quantity) throughout the wasatch than the uintas.

-Sierra Nevada and Westminster are both small private colleges that cost a ton of money and have limited programs

Sure, Tahoe is sick, and so is Donner. Not going to argue with that. But you're painting a pretty poor picture of utah.

Ok dumb fuck.... When did I support reno???? I never did! I have lived in utah way longer than you have, and have done a lot of exploring.
I would never, and have never lived in Reno, again it is a shit hole in every way.
How can you possibly diss on the uintas and back the wasatch??? You just made yourself sound like a fucking idiot who has NO clue what your talking about. Get a sled and do some exploring and you will prob shit yourself at the terrain up there, I'm helping you out on this one!
It is true the head dude at pc got frustrated with upper peeps not letting him do what he wanted, sorry but it is true! I never said pc was not dumping money into their park, again your an idiot. I was the first to say they will have a night park next year in a previous thread.
If you can deny the mormon influence on local gov, well then you dont know what is going on! And again show yourself as being misinformed and a retard.
I went to the U before finding my own path, and in my earthquakes and volcanoes class found out about the fault line, it is true and very interesting! I never said it is going to happen tomorrow, but if it does you will prob die. Look into it because regardless it is very interesting!
UNR, never said anything about that place, never lived in reno or surrounding area either.... been in ut for 8 years and running! So again your very dumb for assuming.
If you went to the u and never had the your prof. talk about their missions I would like to know what classes you took!
I think it is you who really doesnt know anything about the place my friend.... Please do research before acting like you know.

This made me laugh. But they both are shitty schools, awesome areas. Make your desicion based off of housing cost, job quality, etc that you can find.

galena. downtown reno is a shit hole but reno has its nice areas. I lived in Galena most the winter and it is nice as fuck and only like 20 min from mt rose. 1 hour to squaw 1 hour to south lake

you really went aggro on my response, and you are the one who is assuming content on what I posted. read back and you will get it.

I know plenty about mormon influence, the faultline, the uintas which I have explored. I graduated with a BFA from the U, and ran the gammut of gen eds. Sounds like you just got unlucky, or I got lucky. Either way, it's not as bad as you made it sound.

This thread is about college. He's asking where he should go for college, and a lot of what you posted was negatives about Utah and the school. I grew up three hours away from Reno and know people who go to UNR, it's a shithole (which you seem to agree with). So, if you aren't claiming to know much about Reno, why would you post all that in a thread that's about comparison for the sake of going to college?

no they are not they are dirty whores who sleep around the same group of friends aka disgusting vagina

Anyone who hates on utah either has never lived here or has had a rare, bad experience.

Mormons have little to no influence on me, minus seeing them around and maybe knowing a friend who is mormon. Sure they have influence in the government but shit doesn't phase me at all.

PC is fucking awesome, its not breck or keystone, but the vibe is so much better than in CO.

I dunno where you heard shit about cooper leaving, cause he's not.

The U is turning into a pretty good school, it has increased dramatically and is expanding like a mother fucker, they got so much cheddar they're doing fantastic. Now joining the Pac 10(12), ranked in the top 100 schools, UNR doesn't have shit on the U and most schools don't.

Housings cheap, can't beat that.

Fault line, psht.

Makes me so heated when people talk shit on utah, slc is legit and is being more legit every day. Sure we don't have the bar scene most citys have, but shit still goes off.

I dunno where you got that SLC isn't diverse, there are mexicans fucking everywhere and not just immigrant types, but all levels.

U of Utah is not a bad school for quite a few programs.. #2 in research for biomed behind MIT, careful making overall statements with little knowledge

He made it sound like only white people lived here, so i was telling him thats not true

by only pointing out that mexicans live here...and not just fence hoppers...but once with money! come on now. nevermind the big greek orthodox church downtown, nevermind all the gellato shops all over. never mind the koreans, chinese and japanese all over the place...diversity isnt just from south of the border
