Hey NS so iv made a thread about this a long time back but i am remaking it for 2 reasons, 1, I didnt really get the results i wanted the first time i made the thread and 2, the information someone provided me with through a link no longer exists. I want to know the absolute best settings for best quality on Sony Vegas Pro 9. I have a Panasonic HDC-TM700 and while i am impressed by the quality compared to other cameras i have i watch the raw footage through the screen or through my laptop and it looks 10 times better than after all is said and done rendering. Here is what it turned out like on my last edit and i know it could look much better:

So i want to know from someone who has done it 100's of times whats the best importing and exporting settings and options in Vegas. if you could take a screenshot of you settings so i could put it right into the rendering and importing properties that would be great. also if people find better HD rendering quality out of a windows compatible editing software i am curious as well. Thanks a ton

i want to know also, i have the same issue except using premiere pro cs5 and a t2i, by the way sick edit dude
 
I'm using pro 8 so I might be able to help you out. I got an hv30 so it's just 720p, but I know people with 1080p cams who use this cause it is a much wider view. Now I'm not expert on this, but here is what I do.

On mine I put my properties at HDV 720-30p (1280x720, 29.970fps) and change full resolution rendering quality to "best"

Then when I render: If I want a quick render with low file size I just do a .wmv and change the settings to "best" instead of good. If I'm looking for a much higher quality, but bigger size it's Mainconcept MPEG-2 since vimeo accepts m2t files now this works great and you get a nice quality.

 
Ah, I'm shooting with a TM700 and editing in Sony Vegas 9 too. I've only had the camera for a week so I'm still playing around with it.

Here is an edit from my first couple days filming with it, kinda hard to compare the quality, but from what I can tell, it's somewhat sharper than yours.

Anyways, here is what I do.

Project Settings

1920x1080, Field Order: Progressive Scan, Frame Rate: 59.94

Render Settings

I use the Mainconcept AVC/AAC (.mp4), which is H.264, what you wanna be using to export for web. I export as follows:

Frame Size: 1280x720

Profile: Main

Frame Rate: 30fps (cause the TM700 shoots in 60p)

Field Order: None (Progressive Scan)

Variable Bit Rate: Maximum: 5,000,000 Average: 4,500,000

Try it, lemme know how it goes.

By the way, are you using a handle/steadycam, if so what is it? Your follow cams/moving shots seem to be really smooth. I'm looking to buy or make a cheap handle.

Remember, the project settings are set for footage shot in 1920x1080/60p. You should set yours to match your original footage. If you're editing in Sony Vegas, bring up the the Project Properties window (as shown in the top image) and click on that folder icon in the top right, and then choose your video file. It matches your project settings to the footy (remember, it's not perfect, so double check to make sure everything's right).

 
I use final cut pro 7 but i render my videos with these settings and they seem to be good.
the dimensions are small because i forgot to change my recording settings on my nikon d300s for this video from 640x424 to 720hd. here is the video with these rendering settings
