Removing powder skirts?

What's the best way to remove a the rubber off a powder skirt without actually cutting it off to ruin the jacket? I hate the rubber, it always rides my shirt up and I just get more snow up my back...
I was thinking of just putting duck tape over the rubber part, or actually taking out the threads that hold the rubber strip in?

just dont clip it together. thats what i did last year, and it worked. that way you dont wreck the coat and its worth more if you ever decide to sell it
