Religulous: Watch It Now!

Watched this and analyzed it in english. It is a terribly made and extremely biased documentary. It isnt even arguments, just attacks.

That being said, I love it.

Yeah but his expert sources were all picked out because he knew they would look bad. He could have picked knowledgeable people. The one he did well on was the guy in the Vatican that joked around with him.

Been threads about it before. Bill maher is a douche. He makes some good points sometimes despite that though.

I thought the film was alright. Not amazing, not bad. Worth watching.

Im not religious in any way but i fucking hated this movie, bill maher is the biggest douche ever. he makes some decent arguments and points, which is surprising because he just sounds like a moron on his show. but for half the movie he's going around giving people shit that just happen to be religious, and the other half it seems like he just tried to find the most nutty people to interview so he could make them seem even more crazy.
if someone wants to argue with me about how im wrong by not believing in god, then thats fine, ill argue my point like crazy. and if they try to push their religion on me then ill tell them why i think their religion is wrong. but going around, bullying people who believe in god, go to church, and keep to themselves about it, just for the sake of making fun of someones beliefs is just retarded. he's doing the same thing those religious nut jobs to to us, going around pushing their beliefs on others. so fuck bill maher!

he proves that religious fanatics sound like retards. find the documentary 'jesus camp' its around online.. ridddiiiccullouss, about evangelical christians families and stuff, really messed up stuff.

Let me preface this post with this statement: I'm and Atheist and a Liberal.
He is totally a douche but I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh. I'd been meaning to watching this movie for quite some time. Thank you OP!!!

To all you saying he's a douche, he at least gives the people a chance to prove him wrong before he becomes mean and proves them wrong.
They never prove him wrong.

I know right? It's so terribly hard what he's doing. Finding the dumbest people in the world and finding wholes in their logic then making them look stupid. Such an incredibly hard task.

i enjoyed it, organized religion bothers me. while he is a douche, and talks to nut jobs, he addresses some of the issues with organized religious groups.

as someone who grew up super religious, and still believes in god but not a specific church, i can honestly say the movie is wonderful humor. but thats all it is. taking a moderately intelligent person and having him debate the most retarded fanatics shouldn't be taken seriously. if you watch it for laughs, you'll get what you wanted, but if you actually want a provocative documentary on religion go somewhere else.

Ever heard of the Manson Family? Hell, even Al Qaeda? I know that things like Jesus Camp and Westboro Baptist exist, and people feed off of it. Just like in this video, the two 'Christian' organizations I just mentioned are a tiny sample of over a billion Christians around the world. There are other groups that do similar things (but they're not Christian, so we'll tolerate it), but often things that actually get people hurt or killed. Most of the kids at Jesus Camp are probably scarred, yes, but that is the fault of a bastardization of Christian dogma. Christianity is about loving God and your neighbor, and too many people have taken it out of context. You definitely know Christians who are afraid to share that part of their life with their friends for these exact reasons.

he doesnt really prove people wrong all that much, he just says some douchey witty remark, people laugh, and he automatically "wins" then if they prove him wrong back, he just says another douchey witty remark and he keeps "winning"

I thought it was awesome. Grew up in an over christian family and i love how he attacks everything. So rad.

As much as I believe that in its current state, religion is the cause of many of the worst problems in the world, and as much as I personally believe that A LOT (not ALL) of religion needs to go away for the sake of humanity, I couldn't make it through more than half of this movie.
In my opinion, that guy is really no better than the people he is trying to make look bad. He thinks (among other things) that a lot of problems stem from the fact the religion has infiltrated the government, and that religious people are trying to, in a way (this statement is insanely broad and in the simplest of terms possible because I'm lazy right now, please don't try and pick it apart bit by bit), force their beliefs on others (i.e no gay marriage). Yet its okay for him to go around making fun of people to their faces, and telling THEM not to act a certain way or believe certain things because of HIS beliefs? I don't think it is. In most of those interviews, he honestly came off as looking like way more of an ass than the people he was interviewing. He would insult them while they were in the middle of trying to have an intelligent discussion until they gave up. I agree with a lot of his points, but he has no tact, and is being as oppressive as he accuses them of being.
Like I said, I don't personally like religion. I was raised Jewish but quite frankly I don't identify with it, and as such I generally choose not to practice it (except for the generally good virtues that I am about to bring up). I think religion is bad because of the problems it tends to cause. That being said, if somebody is able to find comfort in religion, I think thats wonderful, and I am happy that they were able to find something in their lives that made them feel that way, honestly. And there are plenty of religious virtues that I think are great ideals to live by regardless of religious belief, specifically the stuff that says that above all else, you should be a good person. I see no harm in that. Its when people start trying to force people to act a certain way because of THEIR beliefs that it becomes a problem. Once you start doing that, in my opinion you are no longer being a good person. Whether you wont let a homosexual couple get married or you make an actual effort to get people to stop doing something (practicing a religion) because you feel differently. In my book, all the people that do anything like that fall into the same category. People just need to learn to live and let live.
I also think that when it comes to public education, scientific fact should be taught as just that, and as far as I am concerned, religion has no place in public schooling. I think education is far to important to be messed around with. Religious schools have every right to teach what they want to teach, but they shouldn't complain when public schools teach science.
That is all.

i used "aforementioned" in my last essay, and my teacher starred it. then gave me an A+

im 100% serious about this. and hes supposedly a hard grader
