Religious/Atheist pro skiers.

I'm not getting angry bro, completely disagree with this but no point getting into a religion war on ns! Each to their own I guess.

so you really think that because people believe in god, they're all "MAGNETS, HOW DO THEY WORK?!"

hmmm. pretty sure we've progressed a little bit beyond that in the past 2,000 years.

Yeah, but sometimes you can know for sure if they true.

Cant seem to find an example right now, just google.

For an example observing reactions or doing experiments you know it's true.

With big bang and stuff like that it's kinda different.

lets look at religion now. sure, lots of it was based on shit that people just didn't know about, but that doesn't mean that that's how people look at things today.

i don't refute science because scientists once KNEW that the earth was flat.

and lets not argue extremes either. i know, some people are still convinced that god controls all, etc etc, but these are just idiots who just stick their head in the sand and believe what they will regardless of facts. i'm religious, i believe mostly in science, but i also believe in more than ONLY science.

i have yet to hear a valid argument from an atheist that's more than just "wizards in the sky, bla bla bla, religious people are stupid".

a couple of points:

1.) Science is not a religion. It's simple the language we use to describe reality. Reality is something religion does a very poor job of describing.

2.) There's nothing sillier than people of faith taking a shit on science. If you're lucky enough to live in the first world science has done more to impact your quality of life than faith ever could. For example, western medicine and dentistry are clearly scientific endeavors and are the reason you can live past 40 years of age.

3.) Atheism is not a religion. It is the absence of a religion. Lebron James is a professional basketball player. I am not. Do I walk around thinking of myself as a non professional basketball player? Of course not. Your beliefs define you, not those around you.

I was responding to clarify his remark regarding what atheists believe. We believe in science. He got one thing right though: if you don't believe in science or a religion, then I don't know what you base anything on or how you operate.

Something I find weird is that god's knowledge was limited to the people living when the bible was written. The bible says the earth was flat, which the earth is not.

Also if god was almighty and knew everything about the universe, physiscs, neutrinos and atoms, why didn't he mention a word of that in the bible.

Also the bible says nothing about god creating the solar system, other planets, galaxies or the sun.

It just says that god made light.

It seems like everyting that matters to god was earth, while the rest of the solarsystem, galaxy and universe isn't mentioned.

Thats why people didn't know about other planes, the universe or galixies, physics, atoms and everything else SCIENTISTS have found out. Thats kinda proof of that religion, especially chritianity is bullcrap.

This, also it's not a book about physics and that side of things, it's a book of stories and morals and commandments etc.

Exactly!

It's a book written by desert people 2000 years ago that didn't know shit.

Shocking people still believe it.

Then you didn't comprehend my post. We know more about the world, rain, the sun, the stars, aren't quite as mystical as they once were.

We don't have as much a need for a fictional super being

Also, faith does not preclude science. As a member of the Catholic Church, I definitely believe in evolution, the Big Bang, climate change, and all of the other things that evangelicals dismiss. There's no reason to be ignorant of science in order to follow a religion.

And I think this topic is getting somewhat off-topic...

so do you listen to what christians have to say, and receive it with an open mind? or do you just get angry because they don't listen to you

Nope, you can never know if something is 100% true.

But science is the most probable way of things being true, Religion however is the least...

There should be a shitstorm forum where the political and religious threads all go to be shitstorms for eternity.

But since this is here and will take its course until deleted/exhausted, and we have lots of Christians congregated, I have a question. If you dismiss a bunch of things from the bible and replace them with scientific or social knowledge/beliefs that are more modern than the bible, can you really call yourself a Christian? Isn't it about believing everything written there with blind faith? Wouldn't that make you believe in spirituality rather than be "religious"? It's the same thing as someone smoking weed and saying they're a rastafarian. Just because they accepted one aspect of the religion doesn't mean they are part of it.

Also, aren't most people agnostic? Unless you firmly believe that there is NO god, you are in the middle until proof either way is reached. It's arrogant to assume that our science and reasoning is developed enough to prove that God doesn't exist. I feel like most pro skiers probably don't really give a shit either way, and would fall in this category.

Yeah, you've proved that here...

"Now who is atheists? (smart)"

Christians are dumb

"Science is testing if something is true.

Religion is believing something is true without checking."

Christians are dumb

"Thats kinda proof of that religion, especially chritianity is bullcrap"(It's proof that knowledge was limited..B.C. science was just as misguided)

Christians are dumb

"Shocking people still believe it."

Christians are dumb

"But science is the most probable way of things being true, Religion however is the least..."

Christians are dumb

"Hahaha agree."(to a post, "christians are funny")

Christians are dumb

I am not a Christian, and I'd agree with you that the religion taken literally cannot be the "truth"...but you make rash generalizations based on Fundamentalist beliefs and ignore the fact that most of Christianity has evolved with growing scientific knowledge..and most Christians are open-minded individuals who use the bible as a moral guide and a teaching tool, not as a "this is how we came to be" textbook.

Maybe they get angry because of how you present your beliefs(which is just as close-minded as the strictest Fundamentalist) and belittle theirs.

Have you even read the bible? Like sat down and thought about it, the reason it was written, and what its actually about?

It was written to show a way of life that will bring you "Joy". Very extremely debatable topic I realize, which is all based upon what you value in life.

But beside that and into I scientific portion which seems to be what you're more concerned about. Everything I've learned in science only confirms in my opinion that there is a creator of some sort. Evolution in a very basic sense says that if given all the parts and a little bit of energy it can create an amoebae which then turns into a cell and so on and so on. The parts, in one theory, are different elements such as Hydrogen, Oxygen and various other ones, plus a sort of lightning bolt then starts the beginning of living cells.

But if you take this very same concept and put it in a situation we can replicate it becomes very flawed. For example I'll give you all the right parts put together and everything that when alive work perfectly, and ask for the addition of some energy at which point you should expect life. A dead cat, not harmed in any way other than being lifeless. It has all the parts, and their even put together and perfectly aligned. I ask is there any way you can make that cat live by just adding energy?

It just doesn't work like that. There's something that you can't deny that keeps us alive. Something that we can't create, and some sort of design that keeps us functioning.

And if you would like to challenge any of my thoughts I would love to discuss. And I ask only one thing, that we can maintain an open mindedness and a level of respect because either way whatever our beliefs are we both love to ride the mountain.

I just read it pretending you were your demonic icon repeating yourself over & over again... didn't realize that was a mistake

I could be jesus born again in a new life, again I could not.

No one could ever be sure, and I´m not sure either, but the possibility is there.

That's not exactly how agnosticism applies to religion when someone says they're agnostic... But you're probably just making a joke.

Agnostic people believe that there isn't sufficient evidence that there is a god, or believe that there isn't, and accept the possibility of either outcome as potential truths.
