regressing on my spins, help appreciated...

Sup guys,

A while back I posted about not being about to get around 360, and landing 270 or 180. Then with some much appreciated help from some folks on here like Switchpollard and others, I got the point where i was stomping 3's after I learned that my problem was based in the fact that I was not leading with my head, and I was simply throwing my hips instead of my head . Then I got a little ballsy and over the weekend took more than a few gnarly shots doing 3's. So I got put back on my heels a bit and was a little afraid to throw them. Then...I talked to a good bro of mine and he said ... just throw big ones for a few days because you are solid on them, and then you can revert back to 3's in no time. So... I did that, but ... now i have a major problem. Every time i approach a lip with an intention of throwing a 3, i end up just doing a hip turn and throwing a one. I have determined that what i am thinking as I am going up the lip, is about the last shots i was taking on 3's , and I decide sorta mid pop that I can do a 1 easy and stomp it, so then instead of throwing my head i just do the hip turn and do a 1. Then I ride away thinking 'Wow what a pussy.' So my question is, is there anything I can do to overcome this...I really want to keep progressing , but this has done the opposite of that. Any help is greatly appreciated as always, and I am more than willing to try any and every piece of advice that is given.

Thanks again

the key to spinning stylish three's is all about looking at your sphinkter. If you get that dialed, there's no telling what you can do!

no if he can do that basically all he has accomplished is how to stylishly look around at his sphinkter

Or... some actual helpful advice to get me back progressing would be cool too... but little kid remarks about my asshole as sweet too.

i used to have the same prob about htinking too much when you are about to jump. you just really gotta clear your mind and commit. music helps some people maybe you should try that. just keep lookin over your shoulder and you will be fine.

yeah i had the prob to just pop up look like up at 45 angle and keep looking, and after u dial that and try 5s and 7s all i can say is KEEP LOOKIN just keep lookin

Thanks guys, so basically what I got thus far to try tomorrow is to pop up, and just clear my head then look over the shoulder, i've tried but i haven't really done music so we'll give that a shot. But if anyone has any other advice i'd be appreciative... im off to Colorado from So Cal in about 3 weeks and Im trying to get up to 5's dialed, and I need to clear this plateau before I can go any further.. so any other advice... please let me know.

For me, I open up my stance, as I come to the lip I pop up, close the stance (for safety grab..if that is what your doing), I grab with lead hand, being left in my case, and just turn your head and keep looking to whichever way your spinning, untill you end your spin.

just keep looking till you spot your landing and you should be fine. and if your having problems with the mental side of it, just get up right now and do a three infront of your computer. that was easy wasnt it? its not any harder on the hill.

for me when i do 3's i'm like jibEmpyre. i find it easier to grab with the hand i'm spinning toward. so spinning left, grab with your left hand. and one thing that helped me when i was learning was to really focus on turning head, shoulders, and hips (especially hips) all in one smooth motion. if you get the whole core of your body moving smoothly, your legs will follow really easily. and then just grab your ski and chill for a while and eventually the landing shows up again and you're done.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

Alright.. that sounds easy enough..i'll let ya guys know how it goes

Well if you are used to spinning 180's and simply leaving it at a hip pivot you are in a bit of a rut. I think your problem is mainly mental, you just might be going over the slower movement of a 1 in your head. What might help you here, is to (before you hit the jump) clear your mind as best as possible, and just focus on turning your neck/head. While you are standing there, just turn your head, and try to remember the feeling that you get from your head turning. This way when you do hit the jump, you are already set to spin your body, which will be following your head. It may sound like Tai Chi or Yoga, but hell it could help you get over your problem here. ALso, when you are coming into the jump, wind your arms up more, so your mind is going to be set for a bigger spin than a 180, you'll already know that your going to be going bigger than a 180. Another key thing is just to feel confident which will relax you and help you clear your mind. If you've already done 3's, don't let yourself get psyched out by the fact that you've been having trouble with the rotation, just tell yourself you can do it. Hope this helps you out, good luck tommorrow, Ride On man.

hey i had the same problem when learning to do 3's. just keep lookin at the landing, and go for it. when you go off the lip, think about how pissed you'll feel if you land another 180.

Its unfortunate though because I learned all my mute grabs with my right hand. So it took a while to learn opposite mute grabs with my left spins, but then I learned mutes the other way too so now I can just do both.

I dont know if I got the leaning/opposite shit right, but it was just harder doing right hand grabs with my left spins so yeah.

Yeah, i used to have the same problem, and it has to do with motion. If you lead with your upper body but you dont stay strong in your core (abs ect) you get stuck at 180. Think about doing a 3 without a strong core. Your upper body gets to 180, and your lower body catches up at 180. You then lose all momentum and you are locked in this position. Just try doing a three and keeping your whole body stacked and be strong in your core muscles. Tucking up a little bit might help you do this.
