I'm pretty sure everyone who uses reddit will agree that the layout for comments there is a lot better, and easier to manoeuvre. Once a thread on NS starts going slightly off-topic, it's incredibly difficult to remain on topic, since a little commentchain between 2 people will totally take over the entire thread, why is this site still stuck in 2006 format?

IIRC they toyed with this idea a few years ago but decided against it. there are downsides to reddit's system as well, ya know?

Yes but at least I can read whatever the thread is about without having to read the parent comment that's quoted several times

i guess, but reddit threads get super distracted too and there too you have to scroll through a lot of shit you don't want to read

i think the biggest thing people would miss on here is the chronological layout. there are up and down votes but the thread is still something of a dialogue as it progresses and people can always still be included

on reddit, if you get to a big thread late, whatever you write is never going to be seen because your post doesn't have a chance at getting above the comments that already have thousands of upvotes

That's true, it obviously doesn't need to be exactly like reddit's layout with the burying of comments etc, but what I miss the most is the ability to hide child comments, if there is a comment in a thread I don't want to read about, I can simply click "hide child comments" and I don't have to scroll past 500 back and forth comments between the 3 newschoolers users that spend 16 hours a day on newschoolers discussing useless shit.

Yeah, I like skiing a lot, but there is so much jerry content over there, barely any sending, just old dudes posting EDM filled tourist videos of french skiresorts.
