Red Mountain BC

Hitting this place up over x-mas in search of some serious pow.. Anybody been here and if so what was it like? Pretty stoked to spend some time out there

Red is amazing, my favourite place to ski out west personally. However, the last few winters have been rough in that area and the snow has been lacking. Christmas could be tough to have any amount of snow, but if you get a good pow day there it is absolutely beautiful! Best of luck mate!

Very fun place to ride. Definitely doesn't have the big resort town vibe that intrawest-y places have. Motherlode is the obvious chair to spend most of your time on. Powderfields get you into a bit of traverse, but are a lot of fun. Links and Pale Face get you back down to Motherlode quick for more laps. For some good tree skiing skip over past slides, but hang right as you go into roots. If you drift skiers left you get into pillows, but you can get some nice long softwood glades right at the edge. Grey is cool, but I wouldn't hold out for the chutes... esp. if the snow pack is hurting.

Best part about Red and Rossland? People are chill. Rafters and Flying Steamshovel are fun. If it's open and they get snow, enjoy it!

Hope you get some skiing in... They've pushed their opening day back to Dec 20. It's been WARM in the Kootenays. I've visited once and the terrain is neat, lots of minigolf lines and steep trees - assuming they have the snow.

But yeah, pretty much this. They've been hurting worse for snow this year than last year, and last year was pretty rough.

I'll be there on the 27th... pleaspleaseplease snow gods im pulling for you.

What else is cool to do in Rossland/that area if the skiing sucks?

Um. There's no snow here dude. Red is pretty much sitting at no base right now. There is no snow in the forecast for the week so they are not going to open on the 20th. Even if it snows next week, it's a few storms away from any kind of base that will make any good terrain skiable.

Whitewater is doing a bit better, but not much ('cause you know - they aren't open either).

Don't come here till at least the new year, you'd be wasting your time and money.

Well Rossland is a quaint little drinking down with a skiing problem. So there's always drinking.

Also, if snow is limited and there no pow to be skied.. do they have somewhat of a park, or have they in pervious years? Obviously pow takes the priority here but as a fall back it'd be nice to shred a decent park

Ha. good luck with that one. Park usually isn't going until January on a normal year. You gotta come to the realization that there is a high chance that the hill won't be open until January.

If at all possible, ditch. Don't waste your money coming here right now. Go up to Kicking Horse/Banff area if at all possible. They aren't doing amazing, but at least they're open.

pretty similar to anywhere else in bc like revy or kicking horse. lots of snow, cool terrain, can get kinda warm and wet, and super chill laid back towns.

Im sure they will open on the 20th for the xmas season. Expect no park. The snowpack will be low, especially on the bottom half of the mountain. You will probably still have fun

We're gonna need another 70-100 cm before any good pow skiing happens.

They have been blowing snow for racers on the tbar so i wouldnt be surprised if they set up a couple rails, i wouldnt count on it though.

Have they had a decent park in recent years?

red opened today with a jump and rail line.. and have had some good snow the last few days. fingers crossed

just the t-bar is open. There's a 12ft flat bar, rainbow box, 6ft flat bar (wtf), and a lump of snow that theyre calling a jump.

I might go for a walk up Red or Granite tomorrow but I've been hearing that all the new snow on Granite is sliding pretty big.

They've been getting some good snow so thats not a bad idea. Atleast they have a few features set up, hopefully alot more to come! How far up does the t-bar go?

The t-bar is only about 900ft of vert. Just got word that they're planning on opening Silverlode (lower lift) on Monday and Granite and Paradise on Tuesday though so keep your fingers crossed that it keeps on snowing so we can do some pow shreddin.
