Red bull double pipe

aww man... failed to see that part. The concept is still sweet though and i dont doubt that some skiiers would go sesh it even if its not for a comp

But, wouldn't the big G-Forces of a skier coming up the side were the two half pipes meet crumble that wall? Snow isn't that strong, especially under those kinds of forces.

Looks insane, I hope it works out and that let Wise and Riddle and some guys have a crack at it after the snowboard comp.

Because it's expensive as fuck. People have been thinking about these for a long time though.

I'm always hoped the first people to build one would toss in a tunnel or channel gap into the center.

Not surprised redbull is sponsoring it. Otherwise I can't see many mountains just dropping that kind of money making it happen.

I could see some super gnarly injuries coming out of this from people trying to transfer from one pipe to the next.

Should be sick though.

The foundation of most superpipes are made with piles of soil/earth in the general shape of the halfpipe. That way they don't need to use as much snow and it's more stable.

I remember meadows had two minipipes setup next to each other. Was pretty fun to hop over a 4/5 foot deck to the next wall. But while going down one some guy hopes a crossed to mine when I'm going up mine, almost died. In real world would be super dangerous full scale, but epic in comp.

It's all about the snow and getting them open sooner saving money. It's not to make them more stable.

Halfpipes are absurdly expensive if you're blowing snow for the whole thing.

about 10 years ago or more they built 3 of the pipes on mt hood pretty side by side. Theres a shot of a snowboarder dropping into the skiers left one, airing up to and sliding a flat rail across down into the next pipe, riding across the flat bottom, airing up and sliding a rainbow rail over into the third pipe then doing a couple airs in that far right pipe.

Trying to think if I actually remember this or just picturing it from hearing it. My brain is fucked but I feel like I did at least here of it if not see it.

I used to read transworld and stuff. Also dragged knuckles for the last 15+ years. Still not sure if can remember it though

If this goes ahead, which im skeptical about, there are going to be some gnarly crashes over the transition between the two pipes.

If you don't remember it it's gonna be okay....

And when is this comp going off? Stoked to see some footage of it

Are you retarded?

How thin do you think it will be? Like 1ft?

No, my guess is AT LEAST 4-5ft, and that should be well enough not to break but be thin enough to gap over.

BOOM

Double Pipe Dimensions

The Red Bull Double Pipe in total will be 180 feet wide, 550 feet long and 22 feet tall with an approximate 4 foot wide spine located in between each pipe.

While not in competition, half pipes being build beside each other has been done before. Not quite lip to lip, but with minimal deck in between. It was up at Windells back in the day - there's footage of it in an old Mack Dawg video. Technical Difficulties if I remember correctly. They had rainbow rails, flat bars, and undervert sections of pipe so you could transfer from pipe to pipe.

I'll see if I can find any footage and post it up.

nah the deck still has to be big. Depending on the height of the wall the deck separating the two pipes should be around 8-10ft
