Recording vocals.

Okay so im trying to record a couple of my buddies over some beats that i made. Im running a macbook pro with ableton. hardware includes an axiom 49 and soon to be novation for what its worth.
Im just a huge noob at recording vocals. i need a mike obviously (hoping my buddy is throwing down for it) and then what program should i record vocals through and be able to master them if need be and shit...any advice, any good advice, is appreciated.

basic necessities for vocals as far as plug-ins go..

REVERB!- for hip hop just put a little verb on the vocal track, makes it sound a bit more natural.

Compressor-basically just brings the peaks and valleys in volume closer together.

EQ- equilize the track to your liking.

thanks man. do you know what kinda of hardware i would need, and furthermore if i can run this just straight into ableton or should i get the beat into another program and then record vocals?

okay new problem...the audio that comes back to through the master headphones is delayed and makes it in my opinion hard to go in on the beat...any remedy? thanks in advance for feedback
