Recording Skiing with a Non-Weatherproof camera

Do you think I'll be safe if It's mounted on a tripod. And if it is dropped, lets say on a groomer, will it be ruined. I really want to record ski edits but can't really bust out another 500 for the upgraded version with weatherproofing or a housing.

this, your camera shouldn't have a chance of ever falling unless you are follow-camming and you suck at skiing. but really you will be fine if you aren't in a supreme blizzard or rainstorm

filmed in the rain today, and my friends were using t2i's and they were fine. Our cams were soaked too.

cameras are designed to withstand some water. imagine if some cameras had to be kept 100% dry at all times, that would be fucking annoying. companies intend for you to be taking the cameras outside and realize that sometimes there will be rain/snow.

i've filmed in the rain and blizzards with T2i and other cameras. obviously you should use some sort of rain cover if you have one, but as long as you do what you can to protect it (lens cap, cover it when you're not using it, etc.) and it's not pouring, it should be fine.

yup, we had grocery bags on our stuff when we werent using it, but obviously you have to expose part of the camera to GTS
