Recent Seismic Activity at Yellowstone

Word on the street is that it actually wouldn't um... "end human existence' as you put it. It would be a huge eruption, no doubt, and it would send ash cloud over a good part of the states which would definitely suck but it wouldn't affect Europe in any way. Do some actual research on the effects and tell me if I'm right here, should be close to the truth...

yup.

someone figure out if skis slide well on volcanic ash. also, maybe we could get some respirators/ air filter type things as well.

I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to vaporize within a matter of seconds if Yellowstone goes. I'm pretty psyched on the idea, and am planning on sitting on top of a mountain with a sixer and watching it come at us if possible. Might as well embrace the inevitable and give it a proper welcoming, eh?

if there was enough ash in the air it could creaete an artificial winter. it happened nce and they had a two year winter.

id be pretty stocked

once the ash gets into the atmosphere then it will stay in it for a likely long period of time and lead to the whole world cooling down. Not just the US, it will eventually cover the whole world.

Actually, I'm pretty sure tat people said that the ash cloud would cover lots of parts around the world.

But wait, maybe this our solution too global warming, cool the earth down, pretty much break most forms of machinery (that ash is fine and would wreck some stuff), and kill some humans. (lol)

duuuuuude its gonna be a sick season for Verbier. hopefully i get to shred Table Mountain in my home country too. im fuckin stoked!

word. i'll hike the tallest mountain around with a nice cold 30 rack, a fatty sack of buds, and some good friends!
gotta go with the flow no matter what the tide brings in or out

if ash completely covered both canada and the US, it would for sure effect the world's climate in a negative way, and from an economic and political standpoint would probably send the world in to some sort of chaos

if that thing erupts, its said to dump 2 feet of ash in new york city. if so, that would be awsome if it was in the summer, because it would get randomly cold - hence possible snow?!

here is just a picture of past eruptions and the field of debris compared to mt.st. helens

When it does finally go again (not saying it's necessarily imminent and dangerous right now, but it will no doubt happen someday), it will release enough ash into the air that would cause dramatic cooling to the entire planet.

The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in altered global temperatures drastically for a number of years, and reduced sunlight reaching the earths surface by an average of 10%.

An eruption of the yellowstone supervolcano would be hundreds of times more powerful than Mt Pinatubo's eruption in 1991.

It would be like 1816 (The Year Without a Summer) on steroids essentially.

While true, there have been a dramatic spike in earthquakes again and rapid rising of the earth's surface in the Yellowstone area.

Lets 2012 this shit!

im glad i live in VT. i think i saw a projection of the ash and VT got an inch or two so seems we'd have a pretty good chance of survival on the EC but who knows.
but that 2 year winter i could definitely live with haha

on another note i think theres over 600,000 earth quakes under a 2.0 and some 3000? under 3.0 a year so its not much to worry about

true i watching something on super volcanoes like last year and they discussed this it would cover most of usa and some of canada.
there is one in the south pacific that is more likely to do more damage than the yellow stone one
like 90% sure on my info cause i watched the show like in 2008

good news is, im in bozeman. i wont even know it went, because ill be in a billion pieces all over the planet. :)

This type of easy to deal with chaos?

And isn't the one in the South Pacific the one that is right over the area that Krakatoa blew up at a long time ago?

something like thatif you watch the history channel they have alot of volcanoes stuff on how the world was made and other shows

ya im done if this thing goes. im pretty sure that everyone within like 500 miles will just be vaporized.

The eruption in 1816 happened in Indonesia if I remember correctly. That caused the east coast of the US not to have a summer. If something like that happened in the US, then it would definitely effect other parts of the world, not just the US.

Definitely. Montanains will be fucked. People have predicted that it would devastate most of the north western US if it was a big explosion. But people have also predicted that it is all unlikely to happen in the next 1,000 or even 10,000 years.

there has been seismic activity of all sorts of magnitudes ever since the huckleberry ridge explosion some 600,000 years ago. Its called the earth dipshits.

has anyone ever read the book The Road? its about some guy and his son and before hte book actually begins i guess the earth was covered in ash and most everyone died. so they only see a few people, and hte people they see are either fucking maniac cannibals or people captured for food. and theres no sunlight, and its basically a never-ending winter. probably one of the only books ive read that i would actually read again and again.

i heard the book is sick. its coming out as a movie with vigo mortinson in a bit.
but yeah i dunno man that would suck, timings just about right for 2012...just sayin....

Eh, I thought that book was pretty bad. I had heard a lot of good things about it and managed to force myself to finish it, but it read like a high school kid wrote it. Good idea, poor execution.

i have no statistical information on the yellow stone caldera hotspot but it's not because a volcano is overdue that there's a big chance that it'll erupt in your lifetime....
estimated eruptions are just estimates; they need to be seen under the right parameters with correct background knowledge before people start freaking out...

Turns out einstein was wrong though, Schrodinger was correct. Therefore I conclude that god has no idea what he is doing and is constantly rolling dice to decide our fates~
