this is to anyone who knows alot about trucks or drivetrains in general, my truck is 4x4 and has open diff's on both the dana44 and 12-bolt, im considering getting a spool infront to permanently lock those gears and a rear locker, would this be a good setup, what is the smoothest/most reliable automatic locker available,

im doing some seriouse boggins and river riding and trails ect. if i got a spool in the front it would only affect it in 4x4 and i heard it doesnt affect the steering that much, and all i would hafta do is get out and unlock one of the hubs and i would be fine, and i dont have enough money to get electric, or air lockers. and wouldnt i need a locker in the rear more than the front

with an open diff, when one wheel starts to spin, all the torque gets routed to it, exacerbating the problem - you get the one-wheeled burnout we have all seen. locking your rear diff will split power 50-50 to your rear wheels wheather they are slipping or not, a good compromise. A limited-slip diff will transfer torque AWAY from the slipping wheel(s), which is ideal but is the most expensive / complicated / heaviest of the bunch.

im defenintly getting a spool infront but i donno wether or not to get a lsd or locker, they dont make and manual lockers for my corp 12bolt so id havta get an automatic one and ive heard the steering gets to be inconsistant and that sometimes on turns it doesnt unlock, but ive also heard if your offroad with an lsd and one tire goes up in the air it still wont give the other tire enough torque to get you out
