tired of uninformed people freaking out about global warming due to humans. its natural and has occurred for the last 12,000 years.... relax. the world will cool back down just like it has after every high temperature period, just maybe not in our time. doesn't matter if you drive a hummer, or a prius. eventually it will cool back down. fuck the hippies. inb4 heated debate?

yea, keep rocking them hummers and fuck sustainible energy! uninformed people beliving in scientifically backed theories, fucking liberals....

you cannot always believe a graph found online, but from the multiple graphs ive researched, the one here seems to be all correct data, though im sure it cant do any harm to quit the polluting of this beautiful planet we have been gifted.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: Gee, the lack of humility before nature that's being displayed here, uh... staggers me.

Donald Gennaro: Well thank you, Dr. Malcolm, but I think things are a little bit different then you and I had feared...

Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, I know. They're a lot worse.

Donald Gennaro: Now, wait a second now, we haven't even seen the park...

John Hammond: No, no, Donald, Donald, Donald... let him talk. There's no reason... I want to hear every viewpoint, I really do.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: Don't you see the danger, John, inherent in what you're doing here? Genetic power is the most awesome force the planet's ever seen, but you wield it like a kid that's found his dad's gun.

Donald Gennaro: It's hardly appropriate to start hurling generalizations...

Dr. Ian Malcolm: If I may... Um, I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now

[bangs on the table[/i]]

Dr. Ian Malcolm: you're selling it, you wanna sell it. Well...

John Hammond: I don't think you're giving us our due credit. Our scientists have done things which nobody's ever done before...

Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.

John Hammond: Condors. Condors are on the verge of extinction...

Dr. Ian Malcolm: [shaking his head[/i]] No...

John Hammond: If I was to create a flock of condors on this island, you wouldn't have anything to say.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: No, hold on. This isn't some species that was obliterated by deforestation, or the building of a dam. Dinosaurs had their shot, and nature selected them for extinction.

John Hammond: I simply don't understand this Luddite attitude, especially from a scientist. I mean, how can we stand in the light of discovery, and not act?

Dr. Ian Malcolm: What's so great about discovery? It's a violent, penetrative act that scars what it explores. What you call discovery, I call the rape of the natural world.

Dr. Ellie Sattler: Well, the question is, how can you know anything about an extinct ecosystem? And therefore, how could you ever assume that you can control it? I mean, you have plants in this building that are poisonous, you picked them because they look good, but these are aggressive living things that have no idea what century they're in, and they'll defend themselves, violently if necessary.

John Hammond: Dr. Grant, if there's one person here who could appreciate what I'm trying to do...

Dr. Alan Grant: The world has just changed so radically, and we're all running to catch up. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but look... Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by 65 million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?

John Hammond: [laughing[/i]] I don't believe it. I don't believe it! You're meant to come down here and defend me against these characters, and the only one I've got on my side is the blood-sucking lawyer!

Donald Gennaro: Thank you.

I just figured people would probably rather talk about Jurassic Park than global warming. I know I would.

Look a little closer at your graph. See how at the very end the line goes straight up? It's really small so you have to look at the image full size.

Yeah the issue with the graph is that it's looking at the last 11,000 year while global warming has ramped up in the past 50.

yep this one graph is what all those hundreds of pesky scientists doing research for the un should have seen, it would have blown their minds. oh and they are all hippies too. damn hippies.

holy fuck how stupid can you be. It's not 1995. The "It's natural" argument has been disproved to a high level of confidence. Hell even the graph you posted has a near vertical red line right at the end (zoom in, it's there)

This, learn to read your own graph.

Yes the earth goes through natural fluctuations but we are speeding up the process and magnifying would would normally happen. This isn't a debatable topic, it's happening.

Althought it's natural and there has been several global warmings, mankind and it's inventions are accelerating this natural process

It is natural... this graph is 100% accurate but what the OP took from it is wrong. Ice ages are natural oscillations of "Milankovitch Cycles." The problem that we are facing now is that the cycle is being speed up and exaggerated due to human activities.

No one has yet to prove that CO2 is correlated to rising temperatures. Graphs only draw correlations, which is not proof. The real argument that someone needs to prove is whether increasing CO2 concentrations directly result in higher average global temperatures OR are higher temperatures resulting in higher concentrations of CO2.

The feedback processes of the earth, ie radiation budget and other similar natural budgets, are so complex and sensitive it's really hard to pinpoint and prove what exactly is going on.

Really, no one can prove that climate change is man made. If it is man made, then it's certainly not because a soccer mom buys a hummer. The real problem are swaths of coal burning factories in developing countries.

However, have you ever been to Mexico City? Pollution is a real thing and I think it's right to take steps to have less impact on out planet, even if it doesn't stop global warming.

There's still so much research to do... SInce the 1970's people have been lobbying so hard against deforestation of the rain forests for example. "Cut all the jungles down and where will our oxygen come from?" Well only two years ago ecologists figured out the majority of the oxygen/ C02 cycle takes place n the ocean with phytoplankton being the major player. Of the land-based oxygen cycle a hefty share is borne by the boreal forests of Russia and Canada.
Point is nobody can say conclusively yet. The world's fundamental dynamics are so diverse and complex we can't say what kind of a role we play- only that we do play one.

ok whatever your stance is on this we can pretty much agree 100 million cars emmisions definately isnt good for the planet. also just a small fact: 1% of the earths population makes 25% of the pollution. that 1% is america

I think you meant to say no one has yet to prove that elevated CO2 is CAUSING rising temperatures. Graphs only draw correlations, etc.

Yes. If global warming doesn't have to do with humans that means we should continue polluting the fuck out of the earth, chopping down the forests and paving the world. Brilliant logic.

I hope that at some point the topic of the environment will shit back to the motherfucking environment.

Like someone above already said, the problem is that we increase the rising by a high factor. Do you study something related to environmental research at a well-reputed university or do you discuss global warming with scientists? At least explain yourself instead of calling us fools. MADAFAKKA!

On another note: Let's pretend the CO2 emission has no effect on global warming and that global warming itself is nothing to worry about.

Are the measurements the EU f.e. has endeavoured to fight ecological damage nothing to pursuit?

What about efficency, not exploiting the world we live in?

Chopping down forests, threwing chemical trash and plastic into the ocean and rivers, the Deepwater Horizon accident, eradicating thousands of species, over-fishing, 3rd world countries cultivating food for our meat while starving themselves, etc... Fighting these problems often goes hand in hand with fighting our impact on global warming. And you, as a skier, who I guess loves to hang out in the nature, don't give a fuck?

true.

idk how people who think that the climate change isnt man made always also defend otto engines, chopping down rain forest and all that crap.

thats just horseshit

don't fuck with my otto engine. chevy v8 till I die. went vegetarian so I could keep my engine and reduce my carbon footprint haha.

Two points

1) That's exactly what the climate models predicted. The cooling of the stratosphere is due to the weakening of the ozone layer from CFCs. Ozone (O2) absorbs UV radiation and heats the stratosphere, so less of it means less heat. The greenhouse effect which warms up the troposphere happens below this.

2) We don't live in the stratosphere.

omhyfuckinggod shutup none of you know shit about this stuff, politics, legality of drinking laws or whatever so just shutup. fucking jesus...

seriously, the only way you can be convinced that climate change isn't something man made and serious is if youre purposely ignorant. "the scientific community is split on it".....yeah, they're split, 98% to 2%

seriously, don't bother reading this thread, don't bother reading any second hand information, read peer reviewed articles on the subject and realize that there's a reason one side has to rely on bullshit argumentation and nonsense to convince people (and has an obvious motive for misleading people) and the other side can back up everything they say with science

yeah dude read a graph then totally ignore all the scientific research that has been done to prove climates change is occurring. Keep just telling yourselves everything is ok...
