I'm fed up and tired of living here in the UK, it fucking sucks.

I got my ass into gear and decided to spend last season in Canada on a ski instructor course, thankfully I passed my exams and I've actually been offered a job out there for this winter. However the Canadian embassy is yet to offer me a working holiday visa, despite me applying November last year, and by now I assume the jobs will have understandably been offered elsewhere.

I had a chance to actually do something with my life and it's been taken away from me. It's luck of the draw who gets a work visa each year and even though I applied all the way back in November somehow I never got selected. Also I've not had a chance to earn enough money this summer to spend a season abroad without work, so that's out of the window. So basically fuck Canada, it's not going to happen without a visa. This whole situ has pissed me off so much.

I'm not asking for money! I'm asking if anyone has any tips or ideas for me... I'm desperate. Or if anyone out on NS has any names/contacts for me in the US that could assist with a work visa? It's worth asking, where better to ask than a ski-community. I've sent out countless emails to US ski resorts asking if they can help me but barely half of them could even be bothered to reply.

Sorry for the essay, cheers to whoever has bothered to read this far.... I know skiing is where my heart is right now...Wtf should I do???

Timberline Lodge loves bringing people from different countries to work, so you may want to try emailing their Human Resources and seeing whats the dealio. But don't quote me on this but I swear I heard Donald Trump is trying to cut the amount of work visas to foreign workers in the U.S. to increase the job supply for U.S. citizens first. I'm going to school with a lot of foreign exchange students that are in graduates programs for studies like construction engineering, electrical engineering, business, and are having hard times finding companies to sponsor/ give them work visas.

If you want, you can get a job in the Alps quite easily. Let me know if you want specific advice, and I'll bust into advisory mode and drop you half an essay on working in the Alps!

Have you tried the USA? Anytime I have been to a big resort in the Rockies, they have employees from all over the world. They make a point to put your home state/home country on your name tag.

And the HR up at Timberline I'm 80% percent sure is from Britain for her accent, so you may have a plus OP.

Cheers bud, never thought of Timberline, I'll get in touch with them, thanks.

Yeah tried a fair few resorts over past few weeks, just googled their email addresses and sent over an email asking if they can help with UK visas, but barely half of them even reply, the others say they can't help...I know it's because most of the time i'm not getting through to the right people, just some uninterested HR team who don't give a shit...I think we all know that when it comes to getting jobs in this industry, WHO you know is just as important as WHAT you know.... it sucks

Most of my over-seas homies said they had to heckle the Canadian government at some point in their visa carnage.

If you're up for a heavier commitment you could see if the place offering you a job be willing sponsor you to stay in the country (canada). Though this is getting rarer as the fee for the employer has gone way up.

I think the US seasonal visa is the H-2B.

Unfortunately most resorts won't help unless you have confirmed work with them. Best to secure a job first and then get the visa sorted... it'll help your case with the gov.

Or you can keep schoolin' and get a student visa aha! My hometown has a Ski Resort and Operations program thats wicked.

Nah I'm only a level 2 instructor not a chance of getting sponsored unfortunately. It's such a shame because I've got a recognised qualification and a job offer, but yet somehow, I'm still just as likely to get a visa than some waster who's only aim is to smoke a shit load of dope

I know h2b visas are just as unlikely but at the moment I don't know what else to do.

Timberline couldn't help? Might be to late in the season.... You could try other local resorts like Meadows, Skibowl.

Nah sadly not, they don't offer h2b visas. Thanks will have a look

6 months, which would last an entire winter season

But you don't understand.... This dude isn't going to come to America and find side work as easy as it sounds.... He wants to do something with skiing and without citizenship his chances of landing real work is slim. Lets be realistic now...... This isn't something where he can just fly over here and go pick berries 5 days a week for 6 months to go ski on the weekends. This dude wants to work and live at a resort.... With a real wage and good lifestyle...

you're absolutely right there bud.

And like I mentioned in first post, I've not managed to save enough money to spend a season abroad without a job anyway!
