saw this on the news this morning. Some people in abu dhabi claim to have made over 40 rainstorms in the past months. they basically shoot some atomic shit into the sky and it collects all humidity into a cloud which eventually rains. disscuss.

+k to who can find a reliable source stating if this is fact or fiction.

It is believed to be the first time the system has produced rain from clear skies. They have been using giant ionisers, shaped like giant lampshades, to generate fields of negatively charged particles, which create cloud formation. In a company video, seen by The Sunday Times, Helmut Fluhrer, the founder of Metro Systems International, the Swiss company in charge of the project, said: "We are currently operating our innovative rainfall enhancement technology, Weathertec, in the region of Al Ain in Abu Dhabid. We started in June 2010 and have achieved a number of rainfalls."

thought of this right after seeing thread title, crazy shit. imo cloud seeding hasn't done shit to vail's weather though

Yup. It's called cloud seeding and it's done at most of the Vail Resorts. It's done at Lake Tahoe and the Front Range and Vail claims a 20% difference over not seeding. It's debatable whether cloud seeding has any effect, however, because there is no way to measure what would have fallen had the clouds not been seeded. China cloud seeded in the run-up to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing in order to cause more rain to fall to bring down the fine particulates in their air. Cloud seeding cannot start from an empty sky--in theory, it only increases precipitation amounts.

Scratch that--this actually looks like a different method. Fuck myself for not reading the whole thread.
