Rails vs. Jumps

When you first start skiing probably jumps....

I didnt think rails were that cool until i got more into skiing. Now i have a greater respect for rail tricks after i actually tried them.

i am currently a big fan of rails

not as intimidating, easier to hike, therefore easier to get a good session going

jumps if they are shaped/groomed correctly and arent too teenyweeny....first hits on a rail still scare me a little, its only after 4 or 5 hits that i really get into the "vibe" of rails/boxes...
+ i enjoy the feeling of flying much more than the feeling of sliding ....
+ if im wearing my fat planks i try to avoid anything harder than snow ....

jumps if conditions are fast and the landings arnt ice

rails if i dont want to do jumps/cant do jumps

my rail game is good now, but jump is lacking b/c when skiing w/ my friends they hike rails all the time and never do jumps, and it sucks b/c the last couple days i went to the mountain deveoted to jumps thae conditons sucked

rails... i like all the things u can do with them... plus u dont need that much speed which is scary. and flips arent need except off but that means that ur really good. but flips r scary. and falling isnt as bad except if u drill the rail

jumps=scary

rails= fun and less boo boo's

park jumps are typically unforgiving, and somewhat difficult to learn new shit on. build jumps in pow, then when you have it dialed take it to the park. most of the park laps are rails and boxes for me.

i approve of this quote. dont get me wrong rails are super fun, but jumps are the best feeling in the world. plus to those of you who say that they are scary, how does that fear not make it more fun?

I like rails because theres less consequence when you fall most of the time and I like jumps because I like the feeling of being up in the air and stomping a good trick. But I hate overshooting/undershooting and guessing speeds and that kind of thing. I think they are equal in style though because they each have there own.

my home mountain only has rails, so i have gotten good this year. im not about to spend 60 to go to snoqualmie to hit jumps when i have a pass to crystal and get some really good rails

you cant hike a jump and not be pretty tired.i like rails better because if you don't get a trick down, you can hike back up pretty quickly

i like jumps because to me its more like real skiing, you can find jumps everywhere like natural ones and stuff. rails are fun but but not as much as jumps, idk why. also, raails can mess up your skis/ dull them so that kind of sucks.

I kind of prefer natural kickers and jumps over park jumps. In the park I prefer rails/boxes. The jumps around my area are crap mostly.

rail dont come close to giving me the satisfaction of landing a new trick or the rush i get from being in the air. definitely jumps.

Rails are easier to learn and don't involve as much balls as jumps but as sir above me said nothing gives you the satisfaction as when you stomp a trick on a nice jump

i prefer jumps, theyre more exciting. i have never really gotten an adrenaline rush from hitting a rail, but almost losing your shit on a sizable jump is scary as fuck. and as long as you manage to not hurt yourself, you get the best adrenaline rush.

i also like watching people on jumps cuz jump tricks look way cooler than someone just hopping and spinning around on a box. IMO.

jumps are way sicker. more "WHOA" factor. rails are only cool if your a skier watching another skier.
