The qualifier was on the kink rail in the park. It was judged as a seperate event for skiers and snowboarders.
For Skiers:
1st-John Spriggs (14 yrs old):Switch 450 Disaster to un-natural to switch off.
2nd-Ryan Spinks (yes, thats me, i lost to a 14 yr old.)Switch on, Frontside Sex Change at kink, to frontside 270 out.
3rd-Jr Martinez-Switch 270 Disaster to Switch.
Spriggs went for the switch 450 twice. his first try he stuck it, his second try he nutted. He said he was trying for switch 630. He knew he had it won so he just rested with a snowball in his crotch.
That night was an open event. Didnt matter if you were on skis, snowboard, or saucer, everybody was considered 'RailJam Athlete'. The rail was a slightly sloped 35 footer. This thing is like 3'wide and looked easy as cake. Until the snow got really slow, the lip took away all your speed, and Toby Dawson (2 World Cup medals this year in moguls) nutted the thing right in the middle.
Only like 10 people out of the 35 that were jibbing actually cleaned it. Josh Malay got it twice, landing him 3rd place. Phil Russel took 2nd with a super smooth, standing up, very stylie 50-50 to 180 off. The winner of the night was this little grom named Jonas. This kid is 14, pulled off a solid crooked nose press all the way down, and threw the 180 off just to kill it a little more.
The best part of the show however is when Dialated Peeples played their set. Fucking shit they're so good.

little of both. All the skiers were local, but all sponsored. Toby Dawson is a US Ski Team Mogul skier, but kills it in park too.
There were a lot of pro snowboarders there, but it was mostly the Red Team which is the OtherSide Snowboard shop team. Jr and I ski on the Red Team, so we were able to get in to the contest.
