Rail help

I started trying small rails and I usually can stay on for a few seconds before sliding off to the side but if I try to do the whole thing I just fall backwards right onto the rail. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this

Probably try a wider stance on the rail. Make sure you have a good amount of weight on your front foot, I'd say almost 50/50 weight distribution between front and back foot. Look to the end of the rail.

Keep at it and you'll get it down pretty quick, it's just practice really. You can get all the tips in the world but the only way you're really gonna learn is if you go out there and fall a few times

try to focus on looking at the end of the rail. Simply advice but very helpful

this is the magical key that will open the door that is rails. also when approaching make sure your direction of skiing is parallel to the rail. that will help you not fall off the other side of it

does more speed or less speed help?

I feel like more speed actually helps, and makes it easier to stay on, cuz if you hit it slow its easier to lose balance and slide out in my opinion. Although it may seem scarier at first, I feel safer hitting rails at speed

thanks sorry for so many questions but i have one more: the rail ive been practicing on i dont need to jump at all, just slide on, when doing an actual rail how should i be landing onto it?

Look at the end of the rail when you slide it. To prevent falling, try having a wider stance (Usually about shoulder width) and to prevent slipping of the sides, try scissoring you skis. Drop your lead ski backwards to land going straight, drop it forward to land switch.

will this help or is it a stupid idea

Some people before have said some of this, but here's how I started. Equal distribution of weight. Look at end of rail. Reaching down for your skis a little can help to start, but makes it look bad. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RAIL UNDER YOUR BOOTS. If you are on your nose or tail AT ALL and you will come off until you can nosepress and tailpress. And here's the biggest one for me, COMMIT. Just go for it. I got started skiing late, and my friends were already in park, so I kind of got forced to, but just do it. I just threw myself at whatever was there as long as it wasn't too big, and just tried it. Just believe you can do it and try it. I did my first rail my 3rd or 4th time skiing (it was a double barrel that was practically a box) but just go for it. Commit and believe you can do it.

hope i helped good luck

Use some more speed and look towards the end of the rail. Also, to prevent yourself from slipping out and hitting the rail, again, use more speed but also keep some weight on your front foot and have an aggressive position with your feet a good amount apart. I had the same exact problems when I was learning how to do rails. Have fun!
