But the rail I want to hit is a big trap. Seems like nobody has them anymore, your lucky to find one thats a box.

I think it would hold together fine, just like the dfd mailboxes do. You have a point with just building an up down rail, but everyone knows that tubes/mailboxes are more fun to slide.
