Raichle Cuff Removal

Hey guys,

I bought a pair of old Raichle shells off Newschoolers to use for urban and hiking. I'm trying to switch parts over from my Full Tilts but the cuff on the Raichles is riveted in on one side. Does anybody have experience drilling out the rivet or have any alternative methods to removing the cuff?

Tried to search bar and look through the "dye your full tilts" thread.

Removing a cuff that is fixed by rivets is not that easy nor usually safe for the boot. You either have to drill the rivet out, which can cause the rivet to spin and melt the plastic. Or you can slightly heat up the plastic first and try to pop the rivet out, which also can deform the plastic. Either way, it is definitely a gamble that can result in a damaged and unsafe boot.
 
I'm trying to think were a rivot would be holding the cuff on? Every raichle I've ever owned just had the 2 phillips screws on each side by the ankle bone that held the cuff on.
 
It's fairly common that top end boots use dismantlable cuff alignment on both medial and lateral sides, mid level boots use a medial side rivet and lateral dismantlable cuff alignment, and low end boots use rivets on both sides. It sounds like his boot has a mid level set up.
 
From what you described, it is a "mid-level" boot. I might try take some pliers and see if theres any way to remove the rivet that way. They seem to be hollow rivets, so it might be possible if I can really get in there and "peel" at it. Any other advice, is appreciated.

This isnt my photo but it gets the point across. Rather than having an exposed phillips head screw, my boots have this plastic plate covering the rivet.
