Radest dad (or mom)

My dad went to West Point and was stationed in Germany for a while after he graduated so he skied a lot in Switzerland and some other places in Europe. Supposedly one time on the way back to Germany from skiing (not sure where), his truck broke down in a snowstorm and the plows and tow trucks couldn't get to him til the next day (it was night time) so he spent the night in his car. Luckily he had his ski stuff with him to keep him from getting hypothermia. After that he was stationed in New Hampshire where he skied a lot and dropped the headwall at Tuckerman's ravine, which is the only really gnarly feat of skiing he has claimed. Now he just rips the groomers at our 500 ft vertical mountain. He works as a ski instructor on the weekends with me which is pretty cool. Next spring we're taking a trip to Tuckerman's.

my old man started working at a ski resort in 75'. worked at the resort for 16 years was a lift operater, ski patroler, and avalanche tec. he left to work for the state of WA as a avalanche tec and has been for the last 18 years. he gets to blow shit up with explosives, skis and has the coolest job in the world.

my mom worked at the same resort as a lift operator, ski patroler, patrol supervisor, risk manager for 35 years.

bam take that

my dad dated Ted Nugent's sister and used to go out to the Nugent ranch and shoot bazookashe also met George Throrogood and his band before they got big when he was a bartender in JacksonHole skibumming.
got lots of sick pictures of him shredding pow and kayaking. he was a fucking boss

It's great to see teens giving props to their parents. I think all parents, myself included, assume that their kids are going to hate their guts when they become teens.

Here's something interesting to consider. Your parents will drop you little hints every so often about the hellions they used to be. My guess is that over half of what they did, they will not share with you, and there is probably a lot of things that they just forgot about. If you're lucky, you will probably only learn about 10% of they crazy shit your parents did. Food for thought.

My dad was airforce pilot.

he came to america from chile when he was 17.

he was part of the hippie era

he told me about his drug use once. it was prolific

he still smokes weed

Well, my dad hasn't done anything super "rad" per se, but he still skis some gnarly shit at 57, and is by far the smartest person I know. I guess he is rad in the sense that he has been very wise in business, and that allows us to do awesome stuff together like buy classic cars to work on and go on epic trips. I only hope I can be half as successful as him.

My dad used to smoke fuck loads of weed and party while shredding bump lines back in the day. My friends dad is a former olympian in freestyle skiing back in the 70's when it was getting popular. The dude has so many awards in his house. Hes gotten like skiing magizines freeskier of the year award like 5 times.

True Story:
My dad was skiing a black slope with green slope abilities, he fell down and lost his wallet. He left his skis in the slopes and never skiied more (he went down walking).
Now he is fat and dont do much exercise. I think i will finish like him.

My parents can't ski, but they did some cool travelling around India, SE Asia and South America back in the 70s when it was still hardcore. They are also super legit about me travelling and skiing rather than getting a real job, and if I need a loan they always hook me up.

Yep, Ted your spot on!

Sometimes I go over and over all things I want to pass on to my 2 kids. The things I love and would love them to experience – but also all the shit that is best forgotten and left at some oblivious shelf in the back of my memory with a sign saying: This was fun - but not smart at all.

I think this guy is pretty awesome. 42 years old, former windsurfer, not been much of a skier at ALL until in his late 30s, and begun jumping big jumps when he was 39. Would be cool to have a dad like that hah.

My dad has broken his back twice, his neck once, broken almost all of his ribs, broken his leg, had 4 hip surgeries(two replacements), one knee surgery, just DESTROYED everything in his shoulder got shoulder surgery the cut got infected and at 51 he is still kicking. hikes up the mountain every morning before it opens and also traveled with the world cup tuning the US ski teams skis. He knows just about every owner for every ski company. And can get mostly everything for free.He also DH bikes surfs and telemarks. He has been to over 400 concerts in the 70's.I think it is safe to say that he has lived a very fulfilling life

...and thank god I survived the experience. I have a pretty long list of things that I should not have survived. Hope my kids are wiser than me.

My parent can ski and hike everything at alta and snowbird. Also have clam baked the gondola at stowe...

They're 50 and 45...

How about Rory and Sarah. It is hard to imagine any kid's parents registering higher on the radometer! gbalkman has to be a pretty rad dad too.
