R.I.P. Robert Enke

Robert Enke, the goalkeeper for the German National team, died on Tuesday. Really sad stuff, he was going to be their starting goalkeeper in 2010 at South Africa. Even more tragic considering he committed suicide. His daughter recently died, and he simply couldn't deal with it. R.I.P. Enke, and Germany win the WC for him next year!
 
Yeah, it was all over the news here in DE. Given the stress of being a goalkeeper, combined with the loss of his daughter, he just couldn't take it anymore. Very sad news, it goes to say that despite fame, money, and his obvious skills in his profession, depression can strike all of us.

His widow is probably going through an unbelievable amount of grief right now.

 
oh good! i'm glad another ns'er took note of this. I was gonna make a thread about this a few days ago but was afraid there'd be no interest.

its a tragedy and a shame, and its proof that fame and fortune do not mean happiness.

bad week for football, and even worse for goalkeepers. (anyone see about cudicini?)
 
it's definitely sad but he clearly wasn't thinking about his wife, i mean losing a daughter and then a husband would be so miserable
 
Plus he had adopted a baby girl less than a year ago. People say he was really afraid of losing her too, and that contributed towards his depression.
 
i agree. anyone who gives up without thinking about anyone else is a fucking pussy. its a real shitty situation and feel bad for everyone affected but... yeah suicide is the most selfish move anyone could do.
 
It not only isn't selfish it is cowardly too. You are giving up and running away from your problems. Yes, people who are suicidal should seek help because there are people trained now to take care of these sort of things.
