Quick question involving poles

Alright so i was thinking about going no poles this season.

simply because last year (my first year) i found myself always losing my poles in mid air.

i think that it would be eaier not worrying about poles and skiing the park and the whole hill.

does it take some getting used to? and is it easier?

also i wanna get my whole ski, binding and boot setup before i get new poles. in other words poles are kinda expensive.

SO who skis without poles? and is it good for all mtn?

yeah, my friend doesnt go with poles at all, idk he just doesnt like them, i kinda think sometimes they get in the way, but they are nice on like flat stuff, but other then that like if i fall i always let my poles just fly because i want to use my hands to brace myself.

stick with poles for a bit, since i assume its only your 2nd year skiing? you shouldnt be losing them mid-air. Poles encourage you to ski better. When you lose them it feels kinda strange for a while and the balance is different.

I wouldnt suggest it. since last year was your first year skiing, i would suggest a few more years with poles. You won't ski properly without poles, you will just look like a huge gayper.

Hey dude, I would suggest you use poles sometimes and practice pole planting so it gets your body position correct, but I dont use them in the park as Ive hurt myself with them before, and i find setting spins and getting grabs is far easier. for those people, such as the guy above me who may say it will make you look like a gaper, and insinuate homosexuality with cunning misspellings, to be honest a terrain park is a blue square and if you cant ski that with ease you shouldnt be in the park to begin with. In short, as long as you ski regularly elsewhere every once in a while to work on your technique, id say drop the poles for the park, i much prefer it and they really are somewhat cumbersome. Henrik Harlaut trains no poles so if people make fun of you, use his name to sound more core. anyways, since when did anyone pole plant in the park anyways?

lol.

issue

1.) I appreciate you admiring my spelling :)

2.) When was the last time you reveled in Candide's pre-spin pole plant?

3.) Yeah, poles arn't super necessary in the park, and yes, I skied my first few years sans poles, of course I was 2-4 years old *claim*. I think he should ski with poles everywhere initially, because it will hopefully help him get out of the back seat, and up on his toes pole planting.

While I suggest this for good skiing technique I would like to assure you that skiing is about having fun, and if you are having fun without poles, fuck them. But if you want to get better at skiing in general, then use them, because getting better at skiing is fun, and will only lead to MUCH MORE FUN. Being able to ski well is way better than not being able to ski well.

well put, and as for Candide, I dont know how that could have slipped my mind. I for one always did the rabbit ears on the back on inruns when i used to use poles, but never really found benefit in trying to emulate Candide's style any further than that, because really, nobody can. And to the thread creator, although I no-pole in the park, I think it looks much filthier if you do use them. Either way you cant go too wrong, because i mean, youre skiing. there are worse fates

i just wanna thank everyone for there input.

right now the only thing for me is the money issue.

ill see what happens when the season gets closer. the other thing is in line for the lift i usually used poles.. idk

The reason why i lost my poles is because i was pretty much a gaper last year not knowin anything about freestyle because it was my first year skiing. my poles didnt have straps on them either, and sometimes they threw my balance off in mid air.

Anyone ski no poles the whole mtn?

Well aren't we all just ski instructors now. There is a reason people are tought to ski with out poles. If you start to use poles right out of the bat you often use them to 'cheat' and never actually learn to ski properly (just look at most CO parks these days). And then half of you use poles that are to small to actually help you 'ski correctly' and maintain a 'proper position.' If you are still trying to learn how to ski don't bother with poles; and I am not talking about park skiing here. With that being said there is no real reason to use poles in the park other then some people thinks it helps them to ballence, or they just feel weird with out their hands curled around some shaft like object.

Also about poles being to expensive, If you ever pay more then $15 for a pair of ski poles your paying way to much. just go to some garage sales and find a pair that fits you. will cost you $5.

i paid 17.99 for my dynastar poles.....might not be joystick but they do the job and have a relatively sweet graphic....

its easier to ski with poles just on the mountain, but i usually dont use poles for park, and i do park everyday unless its powder, so i just got used to skiing without poles. so basicly its whether or not you want to be more balanced in the air or more balanced on the snow.

I would have to encourage you to use ski poles, if they are falling out of your hands in mid air its because you are not using your straps or just using them incorrectly. They are also the least expensive part of ski gear so I would get some. Not a big fan of the no pole movement for obvious reasons...

Yeah im definately goin to pick up a pair of poles.

could someone help me find a good deal? like cheap price.

cheap suggestions?

u can pick up kiddy poles for like 5 bucks. or just look in the dumpster behind ur mountain
