Questions on sewing your own clothing.

Anyone know of a good way to get into sewing? I have been toying with the idea of sewing some of my own sweatshirts (like some people do) because to be honest, I am way to broke to buy new, 75$ sweatshirts, and I need a project.

So, Any hints, websites, thoughts about how to get started from scratch? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yea. I know there are places to get cheap shit. But saying to someone "I made this" is waaaaaaaaaay cooler than buying it.

i just want this in my threads. I wanted to do this a while ago, got pretty serious, but never actually took it anywhere because I couldn't find materials that satisfied me.
I guess I have a few specific questions though: One of the biggest setbacks was finding ribbing to match the fabric, or at all. Where do you get the stuff for around the neck, (or sleeves and bottom)?

Hmm, dammit, I have sooooooooo many projects, the last thing I need is to dig up an old one. I have so many legit ideas already though, and I'm also broke and need clothes.

You can usually get ribbing at fabric stores.. you just have to ask someone. If I can't find what I want at the fabric stores I usually go to Goodwill or Value Village and buy really big clothes that I like the fabric of and then rip em up and re-make them into something cooler, thats always fun too.
