Questions about Slider

Wow messed that one up pretty good...

Anyways, Ive been wanted a slider since I starting filming last year. I have Manfrotto 055XPROB legs and was wondering what would be the best thing to be mounted to those legs. Ive heard alot about Konova, but whats the difference between K2/K3? Are there any other decent Tripod cabable Sliders?

I have the k2. I like it. Its just 1 less bearing than the k3. I also have 055XB legs. I have no problem with that combination.

yeah definitely check that out, I'm happy with my K3. if you buy it though, dry that thing out the instant you are done using it in the snow or rain. It rusts so damn fast

Also it's a pain but do a test slide before every real shot. I was shooting the other day and every slide was silky smooth until part of a pine needle fell into the track and screwed up my shot, which also happened to be the shot where the rider landed the trick :/

I have a cheap igus DIY drylin slider. It uses some type of plastic looking (I'm sure its some other material) bearings that slide over the metal. I imagine the konova is better, but for $100 is pretty good. The one problem I've found is that it makes a little noise when you slide it, but that could just be mine. Plus its not audible over the wind and skier and everything in the background. But i'd get a konova over this, its only a bit more and is probably better. Haven't used a konova myself so I don't know how it compares, but theres probably a video on youtube or something comparing them (or a thread somewhere, just google igus diy vs konova)

Nope! the dark section which is the track and the silver part that the ball head is mounted on (the carriage) i bought from a company.

The feet at the end is what i made myself, i measured the end of the track and came up with a design on autocad, drew it up and printed out a copy. Cut out that shape then traced it on some aluminum. cut along the lines with a jigsaw and then sanded to dress it up. Drilled and tapped the holes on each end and installed it with lock washers and Stainless hardware.

Here's a little demo reel of the slider before i had the ball head on it
