Questions about moving to Whistler

So I am thinking of heading west (from the East Coast, USA) at the end of next summer, and I have been seriously looking at possibly Whistler as a destination. Can anyone give me any advice?

I was wondering if Canada's health care system applies to non-citizens, and I was told by a friend who lived/worked in Ottawa that if you spend six months in Canada you are granted rights of a citizen, anyone know if this is correct?

And has anyone had to go through the working visa process? I know Whistler does not help with obtaining visa's, but what is the best way to get one?

Any info you guys can give me would be a huge help.

 
Yeah, that 6 month thing your buddy told you is a crock. There are a couple of ways to get visas, and none of them are super-easy. Contact the Canadian Consolate in your state and they can give you some instructions. One of the easiest ways is as a Student.

Almost no company around here in Whistler is going to give you a letter of intent to hire - its a pain in their ass, and there are stacks of folks who dont need one looking for jobs all the time.

Health Care here is really good - but you have to be a Landed Immigrant at least to get it. Your HMO might cover you for out of country for a while, or I know some Yanks up here that just hang onto Blue Cross or Maritime Life or whatever private insurance thing they have going on.

The time you are planning to come is good though - summer is when there is an easier chance to get a place to live and there are jobs to be had.

 
it goes both ways...why would they hire an american when a canadian can do it better...or vise versa.
