Question on Adjusting my own Bindings

I have a pair of Volkl Dogens, whenever I lean to nose butter or just lean real hard forward my boots pop out of the heel of my binding. The guys in the shop near me wont adjust the DIN setting because they went by their DIN chart and wont make it any higher for me. Would it be unwise for me to make the setting higher myself to prevent this from happening or do u think my skis r just to stiff and i shouldnt even try to butter? and if I adjust it myself, how much higher should i put the DIN?

You should definately bring up your din. But adjust only the heal, your boot shouldn't even begin to pull out when you lean as far forward as you can so just crank them up until they don't come off. Leave the toes where they are, and see how they are on snow, if you have problems with them crank them up.

Mine are set to the chart and they will pop off as described. Make sure you check your forward pressure before you mess with the din though, that may be the culprit.

yes they will. the chart even on a "level 3" skier shouldnt hold you in if u just stand there and lean all the way forward. 90% of the time u will fall out, just cause ur not really "supposed" to ski like that and its at such a hard angle for the heel piece. like previously stated, adjust the heel up a .5, lean forward when standing still and see if you pop out, if you do then go up another .5 once u get to where you need it to be (shouldnt be any more then another 1-1.5 at the very max) i would just adjust the toe a lil so you can do tail butters too, but most of the time you wont need to. maybe a .5 if you go up 1-1.5 in the heel

thankx man, well i just put my boots and skis on and played around wit them and found they def respond differently wen im on snow then on carpet, so i'll wait till i get on the snow and will see how far i'll need to change the din, and i'll do it in intervals of .5 till i cant pop out anymore... thankx again

could take em to the shop, puit a type 3+ as youir type and add about 15lbs to your weight. tell em your a freerider and that you want your din to be a little higher than normal.

If you go by the chart, it still assumes that level 3 skiers aren't putting the kind of stress on their bindings that a park skier does. Adjusting your binding by +1 din is almost necessary. But like said above, I wouldn't recommend adjusting the toe piece, just the heel.
