START THE HATING

okay, so im going to race this year and this year only. i am doing it for the free season pass/pro forms/garunteed days on the hill/trips to hood. i know im going to get hated on for racing, but i dont care, and if thats all you have to say go somewhere else.

i was told i need to get pole gaurds and shin gaurds. im not really sure if they are necessary because i have never raced before.... but if anyone has, do you really need the pads, or do you just tough it out? i dont really want to drop like $60 on pads that i wont use after this year.

thanks for the help

nobody should hate on racing ... all it does is make you a better skier... whats wrong with that?

yeah for real. racing is legit as hell. anyone who hates on it is stupid. the only time racing is gay, is on little turd mounds here in the midwest. thats retarded. but for the most part, racing will def. make you a WAY better rider. take advantage of it, and have fun.

It completely depends on what kind of racing you are going to do. If you are getting into slalom, they are necessary, downhill, not so much.

i will be doing slalom and giant slalom.

thanks for the people who have responded and also said racing was not gay. normally people on here say it is because its a newschool site.

thanks for the help, anyone else know?

yea, i race for highschool and i dont use guards or the shin pads sometimes i bruise my nuckles but i dont think its worth the money.

im on the school race team because i get to go up two extra days a week. I don't have any of the special race suits or gaurds or anything.

Pole guards and Shinnys are a must for Slalom. Unles you suck and arn't actually hitting the gates.

For GS your need a padded stealth top. It will protect your upper arms and shoulders.

Its not racing it self that bothers me its the majority of dick head kids that do it, i know lots of cool racers but lots are fags

dude you def need pole/shin guards for slalom.....if you dont use pole/knuckle guards your hands will die and if you dont use shin guards you will tear your pants up.........anyway i didnt use shin guards and my pants ripped a little, but hand guards are a must

Racing is a great base for all skiing just look at 90% of all pros they all started out as racers. Look at Daren Ralves. It depends if you/your coach decides to really give gates espesically Slalom ago if your have never raced before and are only doing it for one season then its not worth it. Hope that helped, Nick.

racing sucks, i hate it. but it makes you such a better skier. i did house racing for two years just to see what it was like and it made me such a better skier

I have really nice spyder shin-guards that I havent used in two years, and will never use again...Do you want them? I can sell them for cheap.

I agree i ski in WI and every sunday last year our hill was overrun by polish racers. Some were decent others i could have beaten switch.

i was thinking about just using my old soccer shingaurds. i mean, a peice of plastic is a piece of plastic, why buy something specifically for racing. and then i might just wear gloveliners too under my gloves, and hopefully that will help. also, if it is bad enough i will just not hit the gates during practice and only in races. but if i really need them i could just buy some gaurds when im there.

thanks for the input everyone.

i skied for a while and i used the soccer shinguards. you don't really need the pole guards until your knuckles are black and blue. they are nice to have but not nessecary.
