so its wedsnday night, fucking wednsdays right, nothing to do. Me and my buddy decide to smoke some herb and drink some beers hang out and watch year one or whatever, that new jack black feel good comedy flick. ends up being like 130 when we finish, drive home cop starts following us. Get to my neighborhood, fuckers still following us for no reason, we're legit freinds driving drank 2 beers over a period of like 5 hours and didnt drink a beer for a good hour. we're not that high kind of tired nothing left on us for weed and shit. we pull into my driveway cop drives by my house to the stop sign, turns around and proceeds to sit. we're like what the fuck what an asshole, lets just go inside for a minute and see if he leaves, just because we dont want to deal with some cop bullshit and i dont want my buddy to have to deal with it its almost 2 and we're both fucking tired. so we chill out, i see him drive up the street the other way, i go out in the street and i look up the fucking street and he's pulled over real sneaky like in a shadow, with his lights off. fuckign bastard.

so this brings me to my question: Is this legal? for him to just sit outside my place of residence waiting to follow a car some more to see if they drive to fast, or other misc. moving violation??

I didn't think it was but i'm not sure, seems like thats kind of ridiculous. my buddy is impatient, I want to walk up and see what the fuck this guys problem is and why he's treating citizens like suspects, but my buddy is like fuck it i'm just gonna leave.

so he leaves, immediatley gets pulled over by not one, but two cops. pig 1 radioed in number 2 for backup, what the fuck? i live here and pay taxes, can I not hang out with my homies and go home without being harrased by multiple cops? seems over the fucking top.

Cop says he pulled him over for doing 30 in the 25, and asks him why he was speeding this time when he followed us before he was doing 25. bullshit stupid question, who gives a fuck why are you following this kid like a nazi? you know. seems fucked up to me, that this is what my taxes pay for. anyways the cops all "let me search your vehicle" my buddys like "i do not consent to a search, I don't have anything illegal, call the dogs if you want, I'll wait". Which is legit because he doesnt have shit on him and he is ready to wait. the cop is such a dick that he calls up my hometowns K9, they're not awake. Calls up the next town overs k9, they're not awake. really can't do shit and lets him go so everything turns out okay.

It just seems kind of ridiculous that they followed us all the way they're then waited outside my house. I dont think thats right, and if it is legal thats fucked up but yeah. so should I file a complaint with the cheif of police or bite my tounge? I don't feel safe as a resident of this town with cops harrasing me at my place of residence like this, and I don't see how this is keeping our communitie any safer, just pissing off it's residents.

thats just a dick cop with nothing to do, but im pretty sure he did nothing wrong, maybe ur friend was going 30 in the 25, so he did have a right to pull him over, im not saying it was a nice thing to do, but technically he was go over the speed limit so the cop has every right to pull him over. But the cop really was being a dick

He didn't do anything illegal, and he didn't search the car. If he had searched the car without some sort of reasonable suspicion, then it would have been illegal. If he smelled weed (which he very well may have), he could have searched the car so I guess it's a good thing that he let it go.

However, that does seem to be a waste of time for this cop. What very likely happened was that someone told him they thought you were smoking weed, the cop saw you leave a house late and assumed you were leaving a party drunk or something, etc. None of these are pressing enough that I think an officer has to wait on the street to ensure the safety of society. You did the right thing by not driving drunk and not giving the cop a hard time. I have to put this one in the "shit happens" category, sorry you had to deal with it.

Thats life dude. Shits not fair. Until the cop does something pretty out of line they can usually call up some connections and get out of any allegation against them. They're cops and if ones shady there are probably a few others watching their back. Thats the way it is.

i feel like getting pulled over in your own/a friends neighborhood shouldnt even count for some reason...

everything aside, if your friend didnt get any big tickets or fines, i would just let it go, in this situation filing a complaint probably wont do much, but if you do want to take the time to do it, i dont think it would hurt anything.

No, entrapment is when an official coerces someone to break the law (kind of like blackmail - "You rob that store or I'll arrest you.") The cop here didn't do anything other than wait for the law to be broken, it was just kind of unnecessary to waste that time to pull someone over for speeding and try to find a reason to search for drugs. Justified, but a waste in my opinion.

word, i chalk it up to some stupid bullshit and all but it still seems like some bullshit on the cops part. really, i just wanted to fuck with him before my buddy left and skate up my street and be like "whats up officer, how you doing" but i didnt get to, so i guess second best would to be to try and file a complaint of some kind just to get a word in and an entertaining reply, but i really dont give a shit since no harm came of any of the proceedings. really a rant I suppose. FUCK THE POLICE.

I would just be an adult about it and let it go to be perfectly honest. I would be my car that he knew you were smoking since you can smell pot on someone 10 feet away. You are lucky he let it go, and what are you going to complain about? Law following? Unwanted attention = a complaint.

Entrapment could also mean following to closely, forcing the car ahead to speed up and then arresting them. I guess not in this case, it would just be stalking.

No he didn't do anything illegal. But I'm guessing you're a middle class approx 18-25 year old male cause cops have a huge hate on for this demographic

completely impossible to prove.
But yea the cop was just being an ass. I have had that happen to me before as well and I once got pulled over for actually doing the speed limit in a construction zone because i knew it was a ghost car behind me and he just said that i was acting suspiciously. Ended up getting off with nothing though because i didn't do anything wrong...

The question isn't whether or not its legal, its whether or not he can do it. And he certainly can. Also I'm really surprised he didn't search your friend's car.

haha I've had shit like this happen before. if you're clean, just walk right up to him while he's sitting there and call him out. you'll really fuck up his chi if you walk up to his car while he's trying to be sneaky and flat out ask him, "Can I help you with something officer?"

its entrapment if the cop was speeding and your bud was following him going the same speed, and then the cop pulls him over.
